The donor coordinator had called me yesterday....they had given a couple one week to respond if they wanted this donor or not and she had til 3:30 today to respond....now I can tell ya I was on the phone @ 3:31...they emailed me picks of when she was around 2 or 3.....she just turned 33...which is not as young as the last one..but she had 0 eggs and this girl had 21 - sometime in the past 3 months....so I had to wait 24 hours to hear if I was the lucky one or not...but, I do not let grass grow under these feet. Plus, I studied her profile long and hard as to not jump too quickly out of desperation...and it is actually a better profile than the last.....
Is age 33 ok for a donor....I am 44....so that "is" young to me now! Gayle |

I don't really know if 33 is the ideal age but seeing that she has donated before and produces quite a bit of eggs I would say that is a great start! Does your RE classify proven as having a pregnancy? One RE I saw classified proven as having extra embryos to freeze and it didn't matter if the recipients got preg or not, which was very weird to me. They also classified chemical pregs as proven.
I think it's great that you like this donor profile better than the other one. Did your RE offer some sort of compensation for the last donor cycle? That just seems so unfair to go through all of that and get no eggs.

Help me out...not sure exactly what a "chemical pregancy" is?
I am new to this. I know that the couple is pg now. She is pushing the age limit I guess...oh, what to do? Although I know lots of young ladies under 35 with very successful pg's on their own? I guess if I were to be choosing a donor outside my clinic I could afford to be more choosy...not certain if it is an appropriate thing to do to post how much this donor costs us, may I? I would love to chat more about that but want to make certain I don't post the wrong things....let me know and I'll fill you in more details if ok. We are in no way able to communicate with a donor....our clinic is the best in the area....we are using one in Washington DC that has even been featured on Dr. Phil show......I trust them as much as would trust any clinic I think....but, this is all we know. Your thoughts 50/50? Gayle |

I just wanted to say congratulations on possibly having another donor .. a proven one at that. I actually think they consider any egg donor that's already gone through a retrieval as "proven". As for the age, it's all what you want and are comfortable with. I think the fact that she recently did a donation and they got 21 eggs AND the couple is pg is encouraging. Is your ED coordinator willing to share any additional information as to how many were mature, the quality of the embryo's, and if they froze any? Granted, the male's fertility situation could also play a role in the equation. I recall you are doing a shared risk plan, right? I think that's an awesome way to go. I only wish we could afford to go that route
![]() Anyways, guess I got off on a tangent - sorry about that. Wishing you tons of luck. Did you officially accept this donor? Keep us posted. Ellen

I'm prob not the best person to describe a chemical pregnancy. All I know is that you appear to be pregnant but actually aren't. Anyone out there that can explain this? Sorry...I'm not much help here.
That is wonderful that the couple is pg! I think your donor sounds very promising! I'm glad that you trust your RE. I was not really asking how much you are paying for your cycle but was just curious if your RE compensated you for the donor not having any eggs on your last cycle? By Emily's post "proven" seems to be very open to any interpretation? What is a shared risk plan? Does this mean splitting the embryos with another couple? 50/50 |

Hi Ladies, I hope you won't mind me barging in here. I am really curious about this proven donor thing as we are right now as I speak trying to pick a donor from the list my clinic sent. It's soooo hard some are listed as having had ivf with the # of eggs listed but that's all the info you get. No way to tell if there was a success or not. I guess its a gamble. Anyway is the age factor something we should be concerned with? ages seem to be early 30's for the most part youngest one is 24 and she so far is my 1st pick. I know older eggs aren't always good and can be harder to fertilize but what is the "cutoff age" for being safe with that. is 35 it? There are a few on this list 35 but that seems to be getting to the top side of the age for me to be considering I would rather 25 -30. What does everyone think?
Gpayne - good luck ! |

Momtotwins-my donor is 23 years old and the cut off age at the agency we are using is 30. Obviously this varies from place to place. I would ask your RE if you could get more info on the donors? Especially if they have had pregs or not. Some of the other threads have comments from some of the woman using younger donors...Sounds like the possibility of getting more eggs are greater when they are younger but it could just be the luck of the draw? I don't know? At first we were considering a first time donor who was about to turn 30 in a few months then decided to wait since we had no idea how she would stim at that age. It's not like 30 is really even that old but we figured we would wait for someone younger. Like EmilysMom said..you have to do what's comfortable for yourself.
Good luck to you...I know it is so hard to make such a big decision on who your donor will be. Follow your instincts! |

Hi there
I am from MD too! I am a 2x proven donor (defined by preg. both times) on bcp for cycle number 3. I mainly wanted to say hello as we are both in MD. Also hello to Emilys Mom as we have shared a few emails............
Regarding donor age a 33 yr old donor IMHO is just as good as a 23 yr old donor. There are pro's and con's to younger and older however it has been my observation that generally the success is about the same. While you may see a younger donor produce more eggs sometimes, lets say a donor produces 25 eggs, then maybe only 19 of those are mature, then maybe only out of the 19 12-15 fertilize...........then you have an older donor who produces, for example 14-16 eggs, 12-14 are fully mature, and 11-13 fertilize.........pretty similiar as far as the embryos you end up with. I have seen both age groups have really good cycles and both have crappy cycles. It is true, you just never know.........Obviously the fsh/lh/e2 testing helps. I think you will be fine with donor unless she is just one out of 100 that has a bad cycle like you last donor did. Hopefully, luck and god will be on your side this time around. |
