Anyone do at home insemination with donor sperm?

I know it can be done, but has anyone here done that?

I'm just trying to weigh all my options. I am going back and forth on ttc, another adoption, or just being content with the two beautiful babies we were lucky enough to adopt.

I am thinking if we do IUI with donor sperm, that it will likely cost $1000-$1500 per try. And who knows how many tries it would take? I am thinking we could maybe four tries at most, then that would be it.

But, if we did the insemination at home, and just tried to use OPKs, it would be less expensive. But then, the chances would likely go down a great deal, without the ultrasound monitoring, etc.

We are also considering foster/adopt. I like this option, too, but there is risk involved, in that the bmom's parental rights may not be terminated for many months. OR the baby may be sent back to their birthfamily after many months.

I just don't know. I am making myself crazy thinking of all the different options and I don't know which way to go. Money is an issue. Maybe we should just be happy with our two. I would love to experience a pregnancy, but, I don't know how much money I am willing to risk on the possibility.

Sorry for all the ranting here. If anyone has any info on at home inseminations, that would be wonderful.

I am a Traditional Surrogate- we used IF's sperm for our home insems, they went really well we were able to relax, prop up my hips and let the little guys do the work. We had previously had six attempts with IUI's and no luck and got prego on our first home insem attemt. We still used our Ovulation Kits to gear us in the right direction, but again with home insems we didnt go past the cervix simply the vaginal opening, but everything worked out great, and my IP's are expecting thier baby anyday... I just felt so much more comfortable at home without the pressure of the doctors/nurses and needing to get re-dressed and drive home etc...
Im not sure on the cost issues, I know the IUI's were not cheap- as I didnt have to deal with that end, but should you decide to go that route make sure your in the right mind set- and stay positive!!! :stickyvib

She was successful!
Good luck Dawn! I know how you feel! We are pretty much in the same boat! Except that our ttc#3 is over (tears).

did home IUI,,,,

I tried doing home IUI also using donor sperm... The are a limited number of banks that will ship to your house firstly.. It is also difficult trying to determine when you will O, because you have to have the tank there and ready.. those guys only live so long in the tank..
Never go past the cervix,(can cause anaphylactic shock)

If I had to do it again, I would of definetly just went to the docs, you have to make sure your defrosting the sperm right and all,.....and they can monitor you more closely to give you a better chance at concieving....I hope this shed a little light, if you want to know more send me a PM..!

Good luck in your decisions!
