Retrieval was a Bust

I just got the most awful call from the doc...
no eggs @ retrieval...we are back to stage 1.
He did say that we are their #1 goal now and will try
to match us with a proven donor....but for me to stop meds
and wait again....I am 44...not a lot of time to wait any more it seems...I will go be sad now.
Just wanted to post and let you know.
Gayle

OMG! I am so sorry Gayle. This is not what I was expecting. Did your RE say what happened?

Take care and my thoughts are with you.

I did not even have myself together enough to ask
the "why" or "how".....maybe tomorrow.
Thanks for your response...I'll be better tomorrow.

Gayle - I am so incredibly sorry this has happened. Things looked so good at the last scan and now this disappointment. I have been in a similar but not exactly same position where you have been. In my third IVF more than half of the follies I thought I would be getting little embies from, came up empty. I was devastated.

Was your donor proven? When you feel up to it, speak to your RE and ask what he thought happened here. Once again, I am so very sorry. This is so unfair. Please know I am here for you as are the other ladies here.

I am so sorry! That is very strange.... I would think at least they would get some immature eggs.... maybe some mature eggs... but NO EGGS? Just fluid in the follicles? I'm glad they are making you #1 priority.

I remember an ER/IVF cycle of mine where we did get eggs and fertilization but after 2 days they embryos stopped growing, so no embryos to transfer!!! It was the WORST day of my life to go through all that and nothing to transfer. It was a very wierd cycle for me since we have always had a good number of eggs and good fertilization and this cycle the embryos all pooped out.

I asked the Dr. and the embryologist if the culture mediums were contaminated, if anyone else that went through an ER/IVF that day had similar problems with fertilization or growth, etc... The RE said they checked everything and could find no explanation. He felt really bad that this strange thing happenned and since I was a long time patient and he had done previous ER and IVF with me having very good results in the lab, the RE said he would comp his fees for another ER/IVF if I wanted to do another one!!! We took him up on it.

I hope things turn around for you and the next cycle is better!!!

Oh no Gayle
I'm so sorry to see your post. It's so completely heartbreaking. I've seen a few times where someone has gone in for retrieval & they've gotten nothing. I have a good friend who went in for retrieval & after having seen 22 follicles, they got not a single egg. She was devastated. She did do another cycle & that next one was successful. Sometimes it's just a fluke thing. I know that doesn't take your pain & hurt & disappointment away, but please know that we're all thinking of you!! Keep us posted on what happens next with trying to find a new donor.

Karen
