obesity and infertility
My husband and I have tried IUI 4 times using his sperm with no success. This month we decided to use DS. I got it from Cryolab which is a division of Fairfax. Our infertility is due to low motility so this is why we thought it would be time to use donor.
I wanted to see if there is anyone out there that can tell me about how many times (average) will I have to use donor until I get pregnant. I have been checked out and all my plumbing works fine. I used clomid(day 3-8) and then 2 shots gonal-F(day 12) and then hcG (novarel on day 13). I had 4 follicles of the correct size. I was inseminated the very next day and the day after. I was made aware of selection reduction before I was inseminated. I am supposed to go on Friday for the preg test. But I am worried because I have felt the breast tenderness and the mild cramps that I usually get before I get my period. I guess I am just really worried that now that I have everything in line I may not get pregnant because of my weight. I am 5'9" and 340lbs. Does anyone else know if there is a correlation between obesity and infertility? Does using DS with obesity help the situation? What's the average amount of times a person uses DS before success?

My dh has non-obstructive azoospermia, and they were unable to find any sperm by biopsy. So, we moved onto DIUI.
My first DIUI cycle was unmedicated, poorly timed, and it failed. My second DIUI cycle I didn't produce any follicles. I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on 100mg Clomid and an HCG trigger, and progesterone support after the IUIs. That cycle, I got pg, but it was an ectopic pg. My very next cycle, I got pg with my dd. When TTC#2, I got pg on my very first cycle. So, for me, I have 5 cycles total, but only 3 where ovulation was properly timed, and I got pg on each of those 3 cycles! On average, I believe that there is about a 50% success rate after 3 IUIs, and 75% after 6 IUIs. As far as obesity, it can definitely affect fertility. I am overweight, and they think that may have contributed to my irregular ovulation without meds. DIUI will not help with fertility problems resulting from obesity, but the Clomid might help (it did for me). Good luck!
