Donor's Retrieval Today!

I got a phone call on Saturday evening that the donor's retrieval is today! We thought it was going to be around Wednesday....but they changed to two days earlier...I have no clue why...maybe my donor nurse can shed light today. Last check on Friday she had 12 follicles...not sure what she had on her appt Saturday.

We will get a fert report 24 hours - so I assume tomorrow a.m. sometime.....

I had a fever of 102.9 yesterday but, better today...did anyone out there ever have any side effects from del estrogen like increased fever or muscle pain...maybe just a 24 hour flu......but, I am staying in from work today, too much $$$$$ on the line to be sick @ transfer.

Transfer should be Thursday for day 3 or Saturday for day 5.......this is my first go round with IVF......is it typically day 3?

Will update all after fert report tomorrow!
Gayle

Hopefully it is just a 24 hour flu! Sticky thoughts for you. Day 3 vs Day 5 depends on the number of eggs retrieved. The RE we went to said if you have 10 or more eggs they let them grow till day 5 and see what they get. Another RE with the same practice said there is no difference in pregnancy rates using 3 day embryos vs 5 day embryos so he prefers the 3 day embryos.

I'd go for the 3 day. I think the embryos are better in the womb than the dish and I've heard that blastocysts don't freeze as well as 3 day. Technology changes every day so maybe it's getting better. Also remember that if you have less than 10 eggs you could let the embryos grow till day 5 and you could have nothing. (again the RE told me that and it scared the heck out of me because we only had 5 eggs! They were MY eggs or course. WE opted for a 3 day and had 3 embyros out of the 5 eggs and transferred all 3 and it resulted in a twin pg, but m/c very early)

The other pregnancy we had was a transfer of THREE 3 day embryos... and it resulted in a singleton... our DS!!!! For baby #2 we transferred TWO 3 day embryos and we have a singleton... due in August.

So for us, 3 day embryos were FINE!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy, I know what you guys are talking about regarding 3 or 5 day since I just had to agonize over that, but what's done is done and now they're home with me after 3dt.

Gayle, I had some muscle cramping and general malaise on that stuff, so maybe it's not out of range. Take care of that fever, though!

Gayle... Take care of yourself so you will be feeling better by transfer. Please update us with the fert. results and whether it will be a 3dt or a 5dt. I think the pregnancy rates are no different for a 3dt and 5dt. The 5dt from my understanding is done to try to prevent multiple PG.

Good luck!!!!!
