Question donor embryo

Hi everyone,
I am 40 and my dh is also 40. We just had a failed IVF cycle and it is probably due to my age. We are trying to think of the next step and have considered DE but we are now considering the possible of receiving some donated embryos from our clinic and have gotten on the wait list. This seems to be a whole new field.
We have looked in to adoption too but it is so expensive an my dh has some issues in his past, as well as health issues, which might make it impossible. We also don't have a lot of money. On the other hand, I am adopted myself so I am concerned that I won't be able to find out the birth parents with donor embryos. Has anyone else donated or received embryos? There are some things that are attractive about it. I'd like to give birth. What are your thoughts?

Hi, I don't have experience with donor embryos, but I know how you feel. i was in the same situation as you and didn't have insurance coverage. I just started with my 2ww today. When we talked to the RE, I was convinced that DE was the way to go. We had also considered adoption, but it costs the same if not more (when all is said and done) and there are so many other issues to deal with both legally and emotionally.

I will be watching to see the discussion on donor embryos. I hope one of these ways works for you!!!

Hi Lentil

I am currently 21 weeks pregnant with a little girl from donor embryo. For our situation, both myself and DH carry a genetic problem that made it difficult to conceive on our own. We also did not want to pass that genetic condition on to our child, so we opted for donor embryo rather than IVF w/PGD. We received our embryos from our clinic as well and it is completely annonymous. So we will never know who the donating parents are. We got a health history on them and 2 generations back so that's it. I am a little sad that we will never meet them, but that is the way the clinic does it. I had them put in my file that I would be open to meeting if the donating couple ever wanted to. I just have come to realize that these people gave an amazing gift and for that we will be eternally grateful. I would love for my little girl to meet her siblings someday, but if it doesn't happen then that is okay too. Good luck with everything!

I have 11 month old triplet boys (identical twins and 1 faternal) concieved via donated embryos from our clinic. We too got back ground on both the egg and sperm donors even though the embryos were originally donated by a woman who matched the donors and conceived a boy, then donated the remaining embryos to the clinic. There are still 9 embroys remaining which we are donating back to the clinic. However, we have asked that the recepient couple agree to future contact for the children if they so choose to meet each other.

We love these little boys so much, and couldn't imagine not having them in ourlives and we thank God for the generosicty of the donors.
