New on the block

Hi,
I am new to this..so bare with me

Have been ttc for 6 years...and started the donor egg program last June and have finally picked a donor and am in the process of the cycle. Just got a call that my donor is getting off to a slow start - 5 follicles - and they are doubling her meds with the hopes of getting 12 (or more).....my transfer should be sometime between March 26 and 28.

Any information anyone could share would be great....the clinic will be contacting me on Wednesday to tell me if the increased meds helped stimulate more follicals....

Anyone else that only had 5 to begin with?

Good luck to all!
GPayne

Welcome aboard GPayne!! Is your donor anonymous or do you know her? I was never told how our donor was doing, they said since it was anonymous they couldn't tell us. Whatever. Any way, I just want to give you some encouragement. For our 2nd cycle (1st with this particular donor) we only got 6 eggs. We were successful with twins but lost one at 8w. For our 3rd cycle (we were blessed to be able to use the same anonymous donor again!!) we only got 5 eggs from the donor. We were again successful.

We all put so much into getting a lot of eggs & get kind of depressed when we don't get a lot, but honestly, you want quality over quantity!! I've seen ladies get 20 something eggs & only end up with a dozen eggs fertilize, transfer 3 & then not have any make it to be frozen, so it's really just a numbers game.

Good luck to you & your donor!! I hope that you'll let us know how she's doing when you hear something!!! If you want lots of cycle buddies, come on over to the IVF & High Tech bb too!! You'll find a bunch of cycle buddies!! Just look for the post called Lucky Charms Chart (or something along those lines) & then post on that one. Stacie will add you to the group, if you'd like!!

My donor is anonymous....however my clinic will be calling me every other day this week when she goes in for monitoring and every day next week until retrieval...they have been very very good about communication. I was able to see a 500 question report on her and a picture of her when she was 3 years old...but, not an adult picture.

Thanx for the reply about the quantity of eggs...that was concerning me just a tad.....but, it only takes one or two :-)
I see lots of twins on the board....that would be great with us as well. The clinic that we are dealing with will only allow 2 embryos to be transfered because of the risk of mutiples.

Good luck to everyone out there!

I just had an email from one of our offices wanting me to travel the week after transfer and I thought NO WAY! Staying put for those 2 weeks close to home...that is a better idea, right?

This is my first go round...so many questions!

Hi Gayle, from another Gayle - welcome. I'm pretty new to this board too.

Encouragement: our 1st IVF our de produced 4 eggs - all 4 fertilized; 2 made it to blast; have a beautiful ds.

However, have had 3 following IVF cycles which have been so disapointing. Have had lots of eggs only small amts fertilize.

Gayle,
That's awesome that they're keeping you so informed!! I never understood why my clinic was hush hush about our donor's progress. After all, it's only her follies that we were interested in, it wasn't like telling us how many follies she had was going to give us her personal info! Like I said, whatever!

ANy way, I'm glad that they're going to keep in close contact with you! I can't wait to see more updates from you!!

You guys are awesome...this process can be lonely...not many
people you know "get it" DH does his very best though!
We will find out this afternoon about the donor and progress.
I go in for a sonogram in the a.m. to see if lining is thick enough.
Transfer will be sometime next week if all goes well.
So much I want to write, but at work and got to run.
Good luck to all and I look forward to getting to know you all better. Thanx ever so much for all of the info..I feel so much better about the amount of follicles now.
Will write later or tomorrow after doc appt.
