morulas tranfered instead of blasts? Anyone had this?
Hello everyone.
I'm new here. Going thru IVF for 3rd time w/ several cancelled IVFs. My RE transfers @ day 5, hopefullly with blasts. However, last IVF cycle 3 embs arrested before day 5, so never went to transfer. This time, had 3 dividing embryos, transfered 2 morulas on day 5. My RE said they were a little slow, but were dividing. He said there was a little fragmentation, but some fragmentation was normal. My clinic, doesn't give much information (in my opinion) - I've asked for "grading" of embryos - I'm told they don't grade them... Anyway, just on pins & needles. Has anyone had or heard of pregnancy with morulas? Thanks! My clinic

I've had morulas before... it is the stage before blastocyst... sometimes considered "emerging blastocyst" depending on cell number. I've always had 3 day transfer so I think the morulas must have been at that stage late in the afternoon on day 3... and the embryologist said that the eggs that were ICSI'd developed faster than the bunch that were regular in vitro'd. I asked her to do 5 eggs regular and 5 eggs ICSI. There was no difference in the fertilization rates but the ICSI'd eggs produced morulas. I have never been pregnant from any of the IVF's. But I think morula is great, more developed, and if they've gotten to that stage aren't all morulas pretty good?

While I can't shed much light on the stages of embryo development, I do want to welcome you to the board. My clinic is pretty tight-lipped too and doesn't ask for my input either! I just changed clinics last year. For that matter, my previous RE did not divulge much info either! My prior RE did 5 or more day transfers on me. I never had a 3 day transfer. I have my first DE 5-dt tomorrow.
Just wanted to wish you luck.

I have a lot of transfers occur at this stage some embies just do better in utero than in a petri dish. SOme clinics also havent been taking embies to 5 days for very long and have better success rates for that than others so transfering at an earlier stage can be a very good thing.
