Laenae,
That's really wild!! I honestly can't believe that the clinic was so careless though!! I would let them know what happened so that they can take better precautions so that doesn't happen again though!!

I'm surprised that you weren't told how many eggs were retrieved. We were told by our first clinic that once the eggs were retrieved, they were ours! Our 2nd clinic told us how many eggs we got each time too! I guess each clinic has their own policy! I know that my clinic won't tell me how my donor was doing during stims, yet I see other ladies here who get all kinds of info on their donor, how many follies donor has, her E2 levels.....just depends on the individual clinic!

I can't wait to hear how things went tomorrow!!!! Grow little ones, grow!!!

Karen

Hi Karen.....

This clinic pretty much keeps you in the dark for sure. When I asked the nurse coordinator last week how the donor was doing on stims, the only answer I got was that she was doing well. When I asked my RE how the donor was doing, he told me that the donor's files were not opened until after monitoring was done in the mornings, so that he could not tell me the exact number, however, she was making lots of eggies. I guess each Clinic is different and this one is rather conservative in their practices. I didn't know anything about the donor's whole cycle.

I will tell my nurse coordinator about what happened yesterday and my RE as well when I see him. What bothered me the most is that after my husband gave his sample he was told to return to and remain in the waiting room until he got an all clear. We waited an additional 5 minutes, and then the receptionist called my DH by his first name to tell him that we could leave. I don't know if the donor or her DH knows our first names but I am definitely going to make a stink about that today. My husband and my name are not every day common names like Joe and Mary so they would stick out. I am also going to ask my Donor's Agency if the donor and her DH knows our first names. I know my donor's first name, but no other particulars. Therefore, I am assuming she may know our names.

Will keep you posted.

Love,
Laenae

How the ED is doing on stims, how many follicles, and how many eggs retrieved could REALLY be considered HER medical information, even though you are paying for it!!! So, unless there is a medical release the clinic may not reveal this personal info. Likewise if this was supposed to be a semi-anonymous donation, then the agency/RE/clinic should have some provisions in place so you are not meeting in the elevator, in the waiting room or being called out by your name!

I can't believe you were sitting there with them! I would probably stare as well.

I was very tempted to go to the clinic the day of retrieval and just hang out to try to see my donor in the flesh. I had to bring DH's sample to the clinic about 2 hours after her retrieval, so there shouldn't have been a chance of seeing her.

I did however find out her name and birthdate from the retrieval sheet given to me at transfer. Clinics should be a lot more careful with chance meetings like that. Especially when we take all the legal precautions with contracts, etc.

Our egg donor #2 we talked to when we got the positive pregnancy test to tell her the good news. We will likely call her again because we will be out where she lives and will let her know what stage of pregnancy we are at. Egg donor #1 knew that we had a few failed cycles but I never contacted her again to let her know that none of the embryos from her egg donation made it to a pregnancy in 2 different surrogates. I have wanted to tell her so she is not wondering, but then again I figure the agency probably told her?

I am absolutely green with envy!!!! I would have LOVED to have seen our donor in the flesh! Although, I probably would have started crying and given her a huge hug - pretty much would have made a fool of myself. I agree though about your clinics lack of attention to detail when it came to scheduling appointments. My RE's office always double checked when I set an appt. to make sure she wouldn't be there any time around that. Not to mention that when we signed in it was covered by a sticker so I couldn't even see if she came in that day.

I can't believe they didn't give you an egg report. An hour after retrieval we got our news. Waiting is hard! I agree with MAV though, every clinic is different. Best of luck! Can't wait to an update!

BTW, I didn't find out how many eggs were retrieved until the day after when they also told me how many fertilized.

Good Luck!

Thanks Mav, Hbby and FLicka

I posted my update above under fertilization and update thread.

Something slipped through the cracks with respect to instructions. My nurse coordinator apologized profusely and said she would investigate. My regular nurse coordinator was not in over the weekend when I was left with instructions what to do on retrieval day. That person should have told me not to go down to the floor where they do IVFs.

I do consider myself fortunate in seeing the donor in the flesh for sure.

Thanks for all your responses.

Love,

Laenae
