Using two samples in IUI

We are doing DIUI with injectibles. Our re says using two donor samples in an IUI cycle does not increase chances much. But in two previous attempts the timing may have been off as the motility was low. What are others thoughts on using two samples instead of just one?

2 different donors or 2 different samples from the same donor? I have heard of doing back to back insems but have never done them myself. Each Dr. is different...If you can afford doing 2 samples and think it might help (and it couldn't hurt) why not do it?

pg mentioned

Timing is much more important than sperm count! I got pregnant 3x with counts ranging from 3 million to 22 million. The 3 million sperm IUI got me twins! I really think IUIs should be done right after you feel ovulation, or you know it has happened. Either that or an hour or two before. I know all mine were done in those time frames. I always did the IUIs about 37 hours after having an HCG shot. Timing is everything! Having good motility is a plus too, my samples were always 80% motility after wash with at least 30% forward progression. Good luck!

a few questions

Kylie, That is wonderful! Congrats! We have a few questions as we are hoping some of your good luck will rub off on us. How did you know you were ovulating? That has been one frustration as our RE tells us to do the IUI 36 hours after the shot, but there is no way to know if that is when you ovulate. Sounds like that timing would have worked for you anyway, but was there some way you were so sure when you were ovulating? My dw takes basal body temp, but other than that it is hard to know as there is alot of cramping that could or could not indicate ovulation. Also, just out of curiousity, where did you get the donor sperm? We are using Fairfax.
Thanks!

Doesn't HCG ripen the eggs and MAKE them ovulate?

We used fairfax and they have the highest guaranteed counts. My RE did the IUI 35 hours after hcg(only one sample) and I got pregnant on my first, third, fifth and seventh tries(m/c twice due to a progesterone issues) and I also have PCOS.... so I am a firm believer in the 35-36 hour after hcg time frame. If your wifes lining good? We also used a baby aspirin at bedtime(from before trying to conceive till birth).. and added progesterone suppositories for 12 weeks. Good luck.

Kylie and mmi

Kylie and mmi- you girls seem to have had really good success with DIUI. I am currently on my 4th try and have been pregnant and miscarried once. Could you give the rest of us some tips on what protocol you used. Did you do clomid or injectables and did you take any special supplements or change your diet and exercise etc. Any info would help greatly, Thank you and congrats, Bdelg3
