Question crazy doing DIUI without medications?

HEllo All---

My very first POST--in my life--(I am an introverted type and have read 1000s of posts...but I am ready to take the click...)

I am a 32 yr old, in fine health--HSG normal, periods normal, ovulation documented, physically fit,

WE have done 4 DIUI (frozen donor sperm) with at least 2 vials per cycle and as good of timing as possible...But no success.

My question is, Do you think I am nuts to do expensive DIUI without clomid or other drugs? Are there known cases of DIUI working w/o rx? Maybe I am sounding impatient, but I am starting to feel discouraged.

I would love any and all advice.
Lovingly, MANDY of California

hi. You must have missed a month or so ago, someone asked about doing IUI's without meds. You might want to look that up for several answers. I did an IUI without meds, just used an ovulation predictor test, and I was lucky enough to get pregnant the first time

Mandy-
I feel like i am in the same boat as you. i have done 3 diui unsuccessfully. i do take clomid however. it is extremely cheap (i pay about 12 bucks a month) and it increases that one follicle that we produce a month to three or four. BUT , i produced 4 follicles the last two months with no success so who knows.

Are you doing the DIUI with OPK tests AND ultrasounds. Both of those would help pinpoint the most fertile time. Also IUI"s that are medicated have a higher success rate... and also a higher chance of multiples. I would think at this point, ask your Dr. for some meds!!!!

thanks for your thoughts: DIUI w/ rx

Thank You all

SUeZ -- yes you were lucky indeed. When you say, IUI you meant frozen swimmers, right? Because I do feel that fresh sperm IUI would be easier, but I don't have that option....

And FrankieJ - Yes, I have read that it seems even Clomid users need a few tries. And Clomid is not expensive

I think that based on where we are at this point, that if it doesn't work after five times NON-meds...I will try clomid.

I think that is a good idea. It does hurt that the sperm is frozen and not fresh. You really have to make sure that it is timed perfectly b/c supposively frozen sperm that is thawed only lives areound 12 hours or so in the body. that makes it even more important to hit the exact right time. very frustrating!!!!!

Hi Mandy!

Congratulations on posting! No, you are not nuts. If you test to have no known fertility issues, it is a common method to do three unmedicated, then three Clomid, then three injectible. (or more unmedicated and Clomid if you chose)

If you do Clomid or injectibles, you would of course want to be monitored by a RE. (you probably are, but don't say.) The last thing you want to add to your IF stress is a high order multiple pregnancy.

I found it amazing at 41 that I was also at risk of HOM's with a DIUI with injectibles. I was in shock that it might, but it has happened in my clinic that is quite conservative.

Good luck!

Conceived with all three methods mentioned above (m/c'd too though)

DanaSingle:

Thank you very much. I guess I was looking for some type of "formula" for how one goes about it all. It sounds reasonable to me, to do these in clumps of 3....

So I guess you could argue that doing 4 DIUI unmedicated (ok, well a dash of HCG was thrown in for flavor), maybe was 1 time too many?

I think that if this fifth one (which we did last night) turns out to be negatory....We will try Clomid.

In your opinion, do you think a "super naturally fertile" person would in fact get pregnant with DIUI unmedicated???Or, am I trying to make myself feel bad?

Mandy, I used frozen sperm. I think if your are fertile, I mean your cycles are regular, I mean I don't see why you wouldn't have a great chance of getting pregnant. Good luck on this one. fingers crossed for you

Our RE has always said fresh is better than frozen but if you are doing DIUI you have to use frozen, right? The donor can't be asked to come on a certain day? Just wondering....
