Question 47 pg with twins - own eggs? Huh

Hi Guys!

Just got some great news ---- someone that I know is pregnant with twins! She is 47 y/o....Apparently, this woman had no assistance (just hormonal shots) and did not do IVF or use Donor Eggs....unable to conceive for years......

Believe or not to believe is the question.

After reading about all the trials and tribulations of all my friends here, I find this story very doubtful and upsetting to say the least. Not that they have to tell me they used "donor eggs", but I really believe they did.

What do you think - statistically an impossibility or a possibility?

While I think something like this would be unlikely, I wouldn't say that it would be impossible. There are some ladies who've been on the IVF bb, who were in their 40's & using their own eggs. They were even told that they stimmed like a 20 something year old.

You never know.

I doubt it, but my perspective is a little twisted!!

My best friend's mom was born when her mother was 46 and that was 65 years ago, so I guess it is possible.

Although a relatively rare occurrence, a woman can get pg. with her own stuff until she stops ovulating. Which for many of us is NOT at 47. My midwife had that chat with me two weeks ago. She has two women in their middle 40's who had surprise pregnancies. (oh, if only that could happen to some of us, right?)

Just be happy for your friend. She's pg, and having a healthy pregnancy is all that matters!

My friends always joke around about me and my dh being one of those couples with a surprise while in our late 40's. Never able to conceive on our own before, thinking we are going through "the change", and finding ourselves pregnant! Well, I don't think that would truly ever happen...IF patients are probably the only ones that would actually find that a GREAT thing to have happen! HA!

As for thinking it is true or not, I believe it can happen. My mother was 42 when she had her 5th child and her drs told her that she could have had 5 more! Just never know.

I was told that I produce like a 60 year old, so why not a 47 year old like a 20 year old?!

It is RARE, but certainly a possability. I just met someone YESTERDAY that was 47 and has a 1 year old. My 1st cousin who I know well and trust told me that this women had been dating this man for many years and they were about to be married when she found out she was pregnant. They were NOT planning on having children and she didn't think she could even HAVE children. My cousin said they did not do IUI, IVF, donor egg,.... they just had S-E-X!!!

Wow!

Some of these stories are absolutely incredible to say the least!

My mom was the last of 7 children.....her mom had herwhen she was 44, so I know things do happen later in life.

I guess I am astonished to be honest with all of you. Well, I hope we all complete our families as soon as possible....just shocked about the news!

I'm an RN in Obstetrics and it's absolutely possible for women in their 40's to become pregnant on their own. It happens all of the time. The only questionable thing that I see in the original post is that they'd been trying unsuccessfully for years and now all of a sudden she's pregnant with twins. Other than that there isn't much reason to doubt that a 47 y/o could be pregnant on her own.

Yes. I think they were trying unsuccessfully for years... Anyway, I just got this warm and happy feeling for them last night...the thought that their dream may be coming true for them, even if it is a little late, is really nice!

I do agree that they may have received a little assistance.

Your daughter is very cute!!!!!

Hoping for a cutie too!

Thank you, we think she's pretty cute too! Not at all biased though. I hope that you have a cutie home with you soon, too!
