Question Anyone using DS with IUI and no meds?

I'm new here and just wondering if there is anyone out there using DS, IUI with no medications? I was successful using DS, IUI 5 years ago (2nd cycle), but as I read more here and at the IUI board, I see that I am in the minority (infact I may be the only one) not using meds for an IUI. I just started AF after one failed IUI cycle. I will probably have another IUI around 1/31 or 2/1. I was also wondering if there was anything to help my chances without meds? What's up with the baby asprin? When do you start? What brand? What is it exactly used for?

I do know that when doing IUI (with your DH's) because I did 6 IUI's that I read your chances of conceiving with IUI are greater if you are on some sort of meds... like low dose of Clomid or perhaps even a low dose of injectables. Of course that increases your chances for success and also chances for multiples. I don't know if the same holds true for donor sperm. I'm assuming you have no female factor infertility so you wouldn't need injectables. Also I have heard the ranges is 3-6 IUI's. I would think after 3 failed IUI's I would ask the Dr. about adding Clomid or low dose injectables.

Hello. With my 5 year old son, I did injections and got pregnant the first one. With the baby I last conceived, since I did have pretty decent cycles and had no real infertility, I did just an ovulation predictor test, no ultrasound, no blood work, and believe it or not, I got pregnant the first shot. So it can happen. I also took vitamins that had herbs in them to regulate my cycle. But if you don't have to use meds, I would say go for it, it worked for me.

When I first used DIUI, I didn't do any meds. However, on my second cycle, I didn't produce any follies, and was diagnosed with PCOS. They put me on Clomid/HCG trigger/progesterone at that point.

I also took baby aspirin. I started on cd1 and took it through until about a week after my IUI. It's supposed to increase blood supply to the uterus, and help with the lining.

Hi! Read your post and wanted to say hi!

I'm in the same position as you. I don't need meds, but one doctor has indicated that Clomid may be the way to go. I don't agree.

I read that a woman who doesn't have a fertility problem should not be taking Clomid. However, I have also read that it will increase the chances b/c more eggs are released.

Seems like there have been a couple that have been successful without taking drugs. Are you cycles pretty regular?

Just wondering?

My cycles are usually 27-29 days. I usually O on about day 13 or 14. There is a vitimin I take that I think helps with ovulation. I was taking it when I got preg. with my daughter 5 years ago. It was suggested to me by a friend after she had experienced infertility and gotten pg while on it. I will not post the name here because I don't want to start a large controversy about it. I've never seen it mentioned here, if you would like more info I have on this vitimin. and my history, you can email me at pelshartman@yahoo.com.
Good Luck!!!
Suzy

oops, i forgot to add also, that like Suzy, I also took a vitamin to help regulate my cycles and get pregnant. I still take it, it's great.

I'm curious now Suzy what vitamin that was?? wonder if it's the same one as I took. did it have lots of herbs in it?

Ok, I'll post the name, but by no means do I suggest that anyone else use it, especially if you are on prescribed med like clomid
The vitimin is Chromium Picolinate. I took 400 mg until pg confirmed then down to 200 until 12 weeks, then off completely. The bottle says that it may help reduce body fat and increase lean body mass in some moderately obese people. I have heard of people taking it to help with matabolism. The person who told me about it had gotten pregnant after many years of IF, she miscarried her first preg. She thought it was due to her stopping the CP too soon. Her second preg. she did what I described above. This may all just be coincidence. However, I went back to taking it after I stopped breast feeding and my periods have stayed at about 28 days (before preg. they were 30-40 days and I had ovarian cysts). Another person said that her mother was told to take this vitimin to help with mild diabetes, so it may help with insulin.

Here is a website that DOES NOT promote anyone taking it. Do your own research and make your own decision.

What was the vitimin/herbs you took SueZ?

Suzy, thanks for sharing. I actually take chromium, but not to get pregnant, I exercise a lot and was told by a nutritionist to take it but i didn't see any resultss, but then again, maybe it's because I have been eating like a cow from thanksigiving on. lol

I actually take a vitamin called woman's daily. it's by Mega Foods. It has red rasberry in it and a lot of different herbs. My period was always 40 something days, and since taking this, i don't have a lot of PMS and it totally regulated my period.

I say whatever works for us, do it.

shartman:

You are not the only one who's not on any meds doing an IUI.
I just completed my first IUI cycle on 1/30 (now on the 2ww). I'm not on any meds at all -- only did the HCG shot.
I ended up w/ only 1 mature follie (only 18mm).
I'm not having the biggest hopes for this IUI, but will be going on Femara or Clomid for the next cycle for sure to help w/ the size and quantity.
