Should I take the Provera?
Hi All, I posted something like this on the IUI board as well because we were supposed to do an IUI in-between our failed IVF and our next DEIVF. My question is whether I should speed things up so that I will be ready when the donor is. My RE says she is currently taking all the pre-tests still before she can start the cycle with me, but my RE wants to get me on bc pills as soon as my period starts. Well, here's the problem and what I wrote on the IUI thread:
Errr. I'm just so frustrated and need to hear from someone who can explain this. My IUI was cancelled because of a faulty ov test, so I don't even know if I ov. I did take the Clomid, though, so is that what is causing my late cycle? I did Clomid long ago for three cycles and this never happened. Anyway, I called the nurse and she said I could just wait it out or get a script for Provera to move things along. I did two hpg test, and of course they were BFNs. I feel like such a dope for getting my hopes up when AF didn't start because even though the IUI was cancelled, we did have BMS. The nurse said it could be a cyst and that hopefully it would burst on it's own??? Should I wait it out or take Provera? Thanks.

I see your point. But can a cyst, if that is what's doing this, really take care of itself? I wonder what the most time I should wait. I hope to get some answers Monday.

Can you do a beta before starting Provera, just to make absolutely sure the HPTs were correct? I've heard of women who had negative HPTs but positive betas.
They make me take a beta even when AF has already started before they'll let me start any meds, just to be sure. Good luck.

Thanks. I'm thinking of going to check it out on Monday if af hasn't started by then. I would like someone to verify, with either a beta or a scan if this is a no ov month or a cyst before I take the drug. Everyone said Clomid was dicey....

I've used Provera before to get started & never had any problems from doing so. I would go ahead & ask for a beta before starting it though, just to be safe. We've all heard/seen those miracle stories where someone gets a surprise miracle even after having to do 5 IVF's!!
Good luck! Karen

preg ment
Hi Loraflo!! I would also request a beta just in case before taking anything that would start AF. My AF was also very late this month, which has never happened since I was about 24 years old or pregnant. I think it must the drugs affecting our bodies and making them a little off hormonally. But, yet again, you may be preggos, who knows? Keep us posted.

Wow, don't I wish you were right, but both hpts on day 35 and 37 were not even close. Put that together with not having a surge, and well, I'm afraid it's definitely no pg. How late was your af, Sammysmom? Tomorrow is day 38 if it doesn't come. I think you're right, Karen and everyone else who mentioned it, that I need to see what's up before taking the drug. Thanks all!
