    Divorced singles adopting? good agencies?

Has anyone adopted as a single, divorced or whatever?

Can anyone tell me who the single/divorced friendly agencies are? I am just getting started on my adoption process, and plan to adopt a newborn domestically.

The agency we used is open to working with anyone who would be a good parent however they are in the Los Angeles area. Just in case you want to contact them check out Vista del Mar.

Singles are the fastest growing group of adoptive parents. Now how agencies receive them can be like night and day. Most singles I know who have adopted (also in the Los Angeles area) have done so thru either foster care of independently. I don't think you need to go thru an agency to find an adoption situation in NY. I think that one has to be involved but you can still do independent adoptions. Just a thought.

Two of my neighbors adopted as single parents. Both would seem to be parents that would have a hard time being chosen, one an over 50 year old women and the other a Gay man who works in the film industry and travels lot. Both have completed their families and are a doing well. Both having adopted over ten years ago so I would imagine that folks like that blazed the trail for those who followed.

Our experience with Vista was great. What attracted me to them in the first place was the general information meeting; the audience was filled with such a diverse group of people hoping to become parents; married (young and older), single, gay couples, etc. Not sure if you need to be a resident of their licensed counties, but worth checking out.
