My Dh and I are at the beginning stages of researching adoption - we are looking into domestic adoption. We are getting information on agencies, attorneys and facilitators so we cna make an informed choice.
We live in NJ. Someone told me that in NJ the state law does not allow adoptive couples to use facilitators. Does anyone know if this is true. Has anyone used a facilitator and lived in NJ?
Any other receommendations for NJ agencies?
Thanks a lot.
Denise

I also would recommend Google Searching!
Intermediaries/Facilitators
Statute: §§ 9:3-38(l); 9:3-39.1(a)(4)

An intermediary shall not receive money or other valuable consideration in connection with such placement.
When placement is through an intermediary:
The person with whom the child is placed has been approved for placement by an approved agency home study.
The birth parent has been offered counseling.
Written notice shall be given to the birth parent.
A decision by the birth parent not to place the child cannot be conditioned upon reimbursement of expenses paid by the adoptive parent.

I also recommend getting a local attorney in the area who could answer that question that deals in family/adoption laws...Welcome to the site and wish I had more answers..

We live in PA and used a facilitator called A Labor of Love in California. Why don't you email or call them and ask? They'll know the laws.
Good luck in your journey!Me (34) DH (39)

Waiting,
I did what you said and contacted A Labor of Love. They e-mailed me back and as I thought you cannot use a facilitator in NJ. I am not that upset because it is one less option to choose from and will make our decision easier - I think!
Thanks for the suggestion!
