I didn't have the skirt finished when we put up our tree, but my goal was to have it finished before Christmas. I made it with about a week to spare.
I ended up quilting simple Xs in the open white squares around each star as well as an X in the center of each star.
I sewed the binding on by machine in the front, then by hand around to the back. I used a mitering technique that is a pain to do when you're sewing the binding on the front, but it makes a perfect miter and is super easy to use when you get to the handwork part. I'm really happy with how it turned out and expect to use it the rest of my life.
The picture below is a cool idea I got from a friend a few years ago. I never knew what to do with my graduation tassels, but she put hers on her Christmas tree each year. They look pretty, I know where they are, and once a year I can "prove" I graduated from something!
