BF Bowel Movements

I have a question for all you BFing mommies. What are the bowel movements like and how often are your little ones having them. My baby is having a movement every diaper change which is like every 2 hours. His poor bumm is sore already. If I look at it in the diaper it looks mustardy which I know is normal, but I've actually seen it coming out. He likes to wait until I'm changing him.....Anyway, it's very liquidy. It's watery with mustard particles in it. He kept wetting the back of his onesie and sleeper and I couldn't figure out why the urine was wetting his back side. Now I think it's part of his bowel movement that's coming out the top, but it's clear. Could this be diahrea? Is this normal? I will call the dr tomorrow, but I thought some of you may know.

Yes sounds normal to me. I just keep Maggies bottom coated with diaper cream to keep her from getting too sore. I learned when RJ was in the NICU that when you are changing them it "stimulates" them to have a BM thats why it always seems like they are going when, or just shortly after you change them.
But at least your baby isnt constipated

It must be normal. Mason does the same exact thing. I swear, as soon as I get his diaper changed he goes again. I don't know how he's gaining any weight. I have been keeping him coated with cream so it's little hiney doesn't get raw. I alternated feedings with formula with my other two, so I wasn't real sure if that was normal. I guess, it is.

If he is blowing out of every diaper, you may want to try the next size up. But what you are describing is totally normal.

Thank you so much ladies! I feel so much better now. I was getting nervous. And his little bottom is red now. I've been using the cream, but it sounds like I should be using more.

My dd had the same schedule. And her bottom got so red One thing my pedi told me was try not to use wipes at every change, try a soft, warm, rag. The wipes will hurt a red bottom and make it worse. I also tried to air out her bottom as much as I could, even by just holding her with a burp cloth type rag under her *just incase*.

We switched to Huggies Shea butter wipes which help some, but what really helped his red little bottom is Burts Bees diaper cream. Do a thick coating every time and be sure to spend some quality naked time to totally dry off from the wipes.

Wow! You ladies are brave with the naked time. Today he pooped all over my hand and he's peeped on me more than once already. Sometimes the changings can be pretty daunting. But his bottom is no longer red, thank goodness and his bm's seem to have quieted down a bit. I was wondering if it was the colace I was on that were making his movements so liquidy, but I was told that it doesn't transfer through the breast milk. I stopped taking them anyway since my BM's seem to be going okay. It was a little scary at first after my 3rd degree tear. Sorry if that's TMI. I also changed to the sensitive skin wipes and I think that may have helped as well. Along with lathering his bottom with the cream.
