NBC calls Obama on insensitivity

Yesterday, when news broke out about the Fort Hood shootings....I had turned on the tv and then walked away to do something, and after a bit came back and Obama was on the tv....it was so odd to me...he seemed almost jovial...and I thought well maybe he can't talk about Fort Hood for some reason, and is about to talk about healthcare......but no, he then turned to Fort Hood. It was such an odd thing to me......

I saw this article, and it looks I wasn't the only one thinking Obama needs some sensitivity training.....

Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting
A bad week for Democrats compounded by an awful moment for Barack Obama.

President Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships.

After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance. At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.

But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?

Anyone at home aware of the major news story of the previous hours had to have been stunned. An incident like this requires a scrapping of the early light banter. The president should apologize for the tone of his remarks, explain what has happened, express sympathy for those slain and appeal for calm and patience until all the facts are in. That's the least that should occur.

Indeed, an argument could be made that Obama should have canceled the Indian event, out of respect for people having been murdered at an Army post a few hours before. That would have prevented any sort of jarring emotional switch at the event.

Did the president's team not realize what sort of image they were presenting to the country at this moment? The disconnect between what Americans at home knew had been going on -- and the initial words coming out of their president's mouth was jolting, if not disturbing.

It must have been disappointing for many politically aware Democrats, still reeling from the election two days before. The New Jersey gubernatorial vote had already demonstrated that the president and his political team couldn't produce a winning outcome in a state very friendly to Democrats (and where the president won by 15 points one year ago). And now this? Congressional Democrats must wonder if a White House that has burdened them with a too-heavy policy agenda over the last year has a strong enough political operation to help push that agenda through.

If the president's communications apparatus can't inform -- and protect -- their boss during tense moments when the country needs to see a focused commander-in-chief and a compassionate head of state, it has disastrous consequences for that president's party and supporters.

All the president's men (and women) fell down on the job Thursday. And Democrats across the country have real reason to panic.

Surprised? Servicemen/women come behind most all else with him.

A little off topic. BO visited here a week ago. As his plane landed of course there were lots of servicemen (mostly sailors) offering sharp salutes as he deboarded the plane. He casually walked through them with the most pitiful salute I'd ever seen. It made me sad that he couldn't even stand up straight or at least pretend to look proud.

Yeah I was half listening to the press conference as it started. I remember thinking it odd that he opened with something like "and thanks to a, b, and c for arranging this fantastic press conference..."

Fantastic? Seriously? I turned it off after that and I'm glad I did. He is pathetic and has become more and more embarrassing. It doesn't take an Einstein to realize you don't behave that way. For someone who is supposedly so smart, he sure looked like a total dufus to me.

I didnt see the President speak, but this is just sad. It is a terrible thing when service members die, even sadder when its on a base on home ground.

Obama doesnt have any common sense or respect.

Yes, despite all the posturing, teleprompters and handlers, the true BO comes through in bits and pieces.

Yep, I saw it and was wondering why he was giving shout outs to his Homeys instead of focusing on the hellacious and viscious MURDERS of soldiers.

. . . the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." the gentleman is not a Congressional Medal of Honor "winner". first of all, no one wins the Medal of Honor. You earn it and then are a recipient. Not a winner. Dr. Medicine Crow received the Congressional Gold Medal as a Civilian. he also received the Medalof Freedom as a Civilian. The Medal of Honor, frequently called The Congressional Medal of Honor, is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is bestowed on a member of the United States armed forces who distinguishes him- or herself "conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his [or her] life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States." Because of the nature of its criteria, the medal is often awarded posthumously.
(see Medal of Honor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
This significant error by Obama is indicative of his disdain for the military. Obama not only apparently resents the military, he's also clueless.
