But he has time to golf. . .

Obama ties Bush with golf.

I recall that Bush gave up golf somewhere during his time in office. Evidently Obama has lots of time for golf. Not much time to worry about Afghanistan, but plenty of time to play games. I wonder how much time he spends playing basketball?

I agree with whoever said on a different thread that he is not simply the bumbling, inexperienced oaf that many of us predicted. It's far worse...he moves with purpose and makes no bones about how he feels about our country and our future.

My father, a college prof for 33 years just retired. He taught pre and post-civil war American history with a few Western Civ classes thrown in now and again. We spent a weekend with the folks a few days ago and he said that he honestly fears for our country in a way he's never felt before. This man was born at the end of the depression, knows American history like you couldn't imagine, lived through the Nixon years, Carter years, the gas shortage and economy of the '70's, the end of the cold war, Clinton and his disrespect for the office of President, etc...he's seen a lot and yup, NOW he's worried. And this man is not one for exaggeration or hysteria. I was frankly stunned at all he had to say because he's always the level-headed one, able to see the big picture. I guess the big picture he sees now ain't so rosy.

I see it differently. One of my degrees (my first one) is in recreation with an emphasis in therapeutics. EVERY person on this planet needs an escape and moderate exercise in order to be at the optimum capacity both physically and mentally. I'm fine with him golfing as long as it doesn't get to be an out of hand thing like some men are prone to do with it. There's a fine balance to be had between spending time with family, self (exercising) and job.

But I did get a chuckle this a.m. when I saw on the news that he'd been blasted for having a boys club and then invited a female to golf with him. Really? THIS is news?!

but LandJ, the point is he states he does not have the time to speak with his general in charge in Afghanistan..perhaps if he wanted to get a round of golf in, he would have deferred the jaunt to Norway or where ever to pimp for the Olympics...??? just saying..he OUGHT to be able to prioritize better..I am all for exercise, but I am also for the CIC having the ability to carve out a modicum of time to speak to his main man on the ground in Afghanistan .... there is NO excuse for the snubbing the general (and by extension our troops) have received...

I agree there is no excuse for snubbing the general. He just didn't want to. We can see through his "I have no time."

I don't know much about the general situation but I will respect the views of those who feel he was snubbed. Like LandJ said, I wouldn't have a problem with exercising to relieve stress. Golf is such a loonnng exercise though. 18 holes, getting there, getting home, post-play socializing - it's a 7 hour workout (for the average Joe, anyway). I will say that GWB was the most efficient exerciser - nothing like running for the most benefit in the least amount of time.

Wow! I don't begrudge him some free time to de-stress and exercise......but, I think that might be a bit excessive for something that as Desca pointed out, is very time consuming. Seriously, WHAT does this man do on the job???????

I agree, and having golfed a lot in the past, I gotta say its not much of a work out, especially the way these guys play, motoring up to each shot in an electric golf cart. When I played regularly I liked to carry my clubs and walk the course.

I love golf, but it is an extravagent waste of time. Great if you can arrange it, and it is a great way to get away from the world for a while, but it is a big time waster.
