Out the first round and everything. And I heard that they actually thought they had it in the bag and were having a party.......um guess it is now a pity party perhaps???

I heard this on the radio while I was cleaning. Being out in the first round, doesn't even seem like they were even really a consideration. Yep, I'd say this was a huge waste of time for the Prez when he has so many other important things to pay attention to.

This is good news for the people of Chicago. Most of them didn't want the Olymoics there and the corruption there would've lead to a huge financial burden for everyone. The only winners would've been the thieves that run that place.

That's too bad. I hope now it goes to Rio - though security will be an issue, they have never had an Olympics in Brazil (have they had one anywhere in South America?)

I hadn't heard that anything was 'in the bag' as far as Chicago winning the bid. What I'd heard was "not chance in hell without Obama's presence, and a better chance if he shows up." For all the corruptness of the Olympics...as Robine has educated me so well on the matter last year, I don't know if there was ever a chance in hell for Chicago to get this. I think it would have been a boost to the US economy....but as it stands, Congrats to Rio.

I was actually secretly wishing for Brazil to win since South America has never hosted an Oylmpics before. I do feel bad for Chicago. Hosting an Olympics is an awesome experience. The '96 Olympics did a lot of good in Atlanta, but also did some bad things as well. The Tennis venue that was built has weeds growing in it and is unused. To my knowledge all of the other venues are being well used. I think the ATL games did a good job of thinking about what happens after the games are over. One stadium was given to a local college. The Olympic village is now dorms for a college that was a commuter school. Centenial Olympic Park is still a gathering place in the city. The biggest blight though was the bombing by that crazy man Eric Rudolph at the Park. Whenever someone mentions the '96 games they mention that.
