President's speech on Sept 8th for school kids

Just curious.
Not looking for a debate.
If you are there is already one on the debate board.

My DD is actually out of school that day, but if she were not, I would not have her attend the showing.

I'm in the maybe camp. If I can get my hands/eyes on the speech first. Otherwise, my kids might *cough cough* suddenly come down with something.

I believe that only good can come from hearing the president speak. I listen to both sides of a debate before making up my mind. How will my kids know what they believe if they only ever hear one side of a story?

I voted other because we home school, so its not like they will be in a school/class to be exposed to it. However, it will likely end up on youtube and chances are I/we will watch it....not because we support the president...but because it makes for good conversation and a stepping off place to discuss other things that we do or don't agree with (such as the "I pledge" video that is floating all over FB right now)

I with MamaBear on this one. I would like to know the content first. I have searched my ISD site and have not found anything about if any of the schools in our town are going to be viewing it.

DH actually just called and brought it up saying he does not want our children to attend. This isn't just a video......there's a whole packet of stuff the WH wants the schools to do in conjunction with the video.

I guess I'm missed that this was even happening.

I voted yes. We are Obama supporters, but even so I can't imagine why I wouldn't let my child listen to what our President has to say? If I disagreed with the content this would be excellent learning opportunity to discuss politics intelligently with my child.

My twins go to a small Montessori School & I'm thinking they won't be showing it. But I do intend to ask & if so-I'll be asking for my kids to opt out.
I don't ever remember listening/watching a President speak on TV anytime while I was growing up in school & I don't particularly find it necessary for my twins to be subjected. Our school specifically tells parents in letter form not to let the elementary students listen to talk radio or watch news stations. I'm actually pretty peaved about this publicly pressured stint BO is pushing on all the American youth.
