House Healthcare $1 Trillion

$600 Billion in Taxes and $400 Billion in Medicare and Medicaide Cuts. This bill should be really interesting. I just wish Congress had to pay for all the legislation they've already spent this year before they geared up and spent some more, putting us deeper in debt. America can't afford this. We can't afford our Congress.

House Health-Care Bill to Include $600 Billion in Tax Increases

June 12 (Bloomberg) -- Health-care overhaul legislation being drafted by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel said.

Democrats will work on the bill’s details next week as they struggle through “what kind of heartburn” it will cause to agree on how to pay for revamping the health-care system, Rangel, a New York Democrat, said today. He also said the measure’s cost will reach beyond the $634 billion President Barack Obama proposed in his budget request to Congress as a down payment for the policy changes.

Asked whether the cost of a health-care overhaul would be more than $1 trillion, Rangel said, “the answer is yes.”

House Democrats plan to release their legislation next week. Obama has made a health-care overhaul a top domestic priority and is working with Congress to get legislation to his desk by October.

Democrats in the House and Senate are working on legislation that would require all Americans to have health insurance, prohibit insurers from refusing to cover pre-existing conditions and place other restrictions on the industry.

The legislation would establish online exchanges for individuals to purchase insurance and would require employers to provide health benefits to workers or pay a penalty. Some Democrats also are backing creation of a government-run program to expand coverage to the uninsured. The issue is the subject of bipartisan negotiations with Republican opponents.

Time to throw the bums out.

Clean house and start over. Dump 80% of the laws and regulations. Dump most of what the federal government does.

It is beyond a joke.

What gets me is that Obama is not giving many details on his healthcare "reform." There's a bill in the house, the Senate is working on something, but there are no specifics.

The Clintons told the American people the specifics and the people came back with a resounding NO! Obama is choosing not to allow that to happen which means he'll slide it by in Congress and only after people realize the debacle, it will be too late.

Socialized medicine really will be the end of America as we know it.

I think medical reform should be a tiger they deal with gradually. The states can not afford a complete over haul at once.

Maybe pass a bill that says people can not be denied coverage for pre existing conditions, medical insurance companies have to show just cause for jacking up thier rates. Give business more insentives to provide insurance.

This is too big to do all at once. Baby steps will go down alot better and probably not cost as much.

from what I understand they are not 'scrapping' anything...they are adding competition a public option. It's actually a compromise from the original plan to a full blown single payer system. You like your insurance? (assuming your employer offers it) you keep it.

Problem is.... when the price tag for something is too high at first glance people get turned off. Thats why I say little by little.

I think had the US started the band wagon on govt paid health care or some sort of reform years ago things would had been alot easier.

Lesley so true. I just see why some has sticker shock.

But what people dont realize... the reason why thier insurance premiums are so high is because of the uninsured. They cant pay, so the hospitals raise thier rates and its past down to those who can pay. Costs of those who can pay get passed down to those who can pay.

They're going to "require" Americans to have insurance? And are they going to require Americans to eat their vegetables, too?
