Anyone watching/listening to CSPAN today? Auto bailout stuff...
I've been listening to this mess and WOW! Those auto guys are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. The committee folks are catching them on every little thing so a lot of stumbling and retractions from the auto men. One fave part so far is the $75/hr wages, and why they are going to layoff 25K in their plan should they get the money. It's really funny in a sad and twisted way. Oh, also liked the barbs from some gal on how come foreign markets adapted so quickly to fuel issues and they didn't...classic...

ooooh...things are getting serious. I originally seriously thought their request was a shoo in. Looks like they may actually not get what they are asking for. Anyone see the Michael Moore you tube idea? Have the gov't bail them out, but convert the auto makers into military equipment mfg plants, all answerable to the US Defense Department.

The union needs to come to the table with a plan to reduce the $75/hr compensation package for its rank and file so that more jobs can be saved. Its current compensation package is not sustainable, the companies will go under, so they must do something. Management / salaried must do something also, but their cuts alone will not be near enough.

Sad thing is not all auto workers make $75 a hour.
