Harry Reid

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democrats forced the Republican-controlled Senate into an unusual closed session Tuesday, questioning intelligence that led to the Iraq war and deriding a lack of congressional inquiry.

"I demand on behalf of the American people that we understand why these investigations aren't being conducted," Democratic leader Harry Reid said.

Taken by surprise, Republicans derided the move as a political stunt.

"The United States Senate has been hijacked by the Democratic leadership," said Majority Leader Bill Frist. "They have no convictions, they have no principles, they have no ideas," the Republican leader said.

And if the reps had done this some panties would have been wadded so tightly that even a huge crane rented form HLS wouldn;t have been to dewadd them...I say if it is a legal move then bravo for them...BUT it does show a tad of desperation....I can just hear the up roar though IF the roles were reversed...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats forced the Republican-controlled Senate into an unusual closed session Tuesday, questioning intelligence that President Bush used in the run-up to the war in Iraq and accusing Republicans of ignoring the issue.

"They have repeatedly chosen to protect the Republican administration rather than get to the bottom of what happened and why," Democratic leader Harry Reid said.

Taken by surprise, Republicans derided the move as a political stunt.

"The United States Senate has been hijacked by the Democratic leadership," said Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee. "They have no convictions, they have no principles, they have no ideas," the Republican leader said.

Democrats sought assurances that Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts of Kansas would complete the second phase of an investigation of the administration's prewar intelligence.

After about two hours, senators returned to open session having appointed a six-member task force _ three members from each party _ to review the committee's progress and report back to their respective leaders by Nov. 14.

Roberts' committee produced a 511-page report in 2004 on flaws of an Iraq intelligence estimate assembled by the country's top analysts in October 2002, and he promised a second phase would look at issues that couldn't be finished in the first year of work.

The committee worked on the second phase of the review, Roberts said, but it has not been finished. He blamed Democrats for the delays and said his staff had informed their Democratic counterparts on Monday that the committee hoped to work on and complete the second phase next week.

I for one would love to know why we attacked Iraq. And dont say it was to remove a dictator. There are worse dictators still in power and who have more power than Hussein, like Kim Jong IL of North Korea.

We cant keep going around attacking any country that does not have a democratic government, just because they arent democratic. The US needs to stop "policing" other countries and take care of our problems inside the US. Let the UN police...thats why they were created.

The UN didnt find anything cause there was NOTHING to find. I'm very happy that the democratic senators decided to stop everything and force the republican led senate to start an investigation of why we went to Iraq in the first place. We were misled. There were never any wmd in Iraq. Now we made a bad situation worse in Iraq. People are still calling it the war in Iraq...well, the war has been over for years. The US is just trying to stabilize the country. Seriously I dont think we will ever stabilize that country. We needed to stay out because it was none of our business. THere was never any weapons in Iraq that could have harmed the US. BUT, now, after we attacked them, NOW, there are terrorists and they are not only coming after Americans, but they are also killing Iraqi citizens. I wonder if the terrorists that went to Iraq to attack the US have killed more Iraqis than Hussien?????
