Book to Read
OK so here is a good book for both sides of the spectrum. Ronn Owens is a local talkshow host here. I don't always agree with him but I do respect him because he can change his mind and admit it... he proudly states he is not Waffling but was presented a persuasive argument and it changed his opinion.
He is "democrat" on some issues, "republican" on others and that is what I think makes him more human. Some try to lable him a centrist.... I definately don't think he is because he can rile up both sides of the spectrum depending on what he personally believes. Anyhow... The book is Called "Voice of Reason: Why the Left and Right are wrong". The forwords are done by Bill Press and Sean Hannity. I know there are several here who have read some of the other new political books and though I would recommend you read this one as well. Like his talk show there are parts I agree with and parts I don't but it is a good and throught provoking read. Here is the bit from Amazon: Ronn Owens Winner of the 2003 Marconi Radio Award for Major Market Personality of the Year "Throughout the many years I’ve known Ronn Owens, I’ve developed a deep respect for his knowledge of issues and for his uncommon common touch. There are many great things I can say about Ronn, but the thing I admire most about him is his fairness. And our public discourse is the better for it." –U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) "Whether you find yourself agreeing with him much of the time or not, Ronn Owens is never dull or given to predictable knee-jerk opinions. On the contrary, you can always rely on him to be interesting and fair, and to challenge stereotypes on the right and left in pursuit of answers to problems that many others exploit to deepen the divisions in the country." –U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) "I have known Ronn Owens for over 20 years, and I have the utmost respect for him. Many radio talk show hosts today come from the far right or the far left. Ronn Owens does not. He bases his decisions on reason and common sense." –U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) "Ronn Owens is a corner store for common sense. He’s got the smart good part of liberalism and the smart tough part of conservatism. He’s street smart, well-read, and gives a ****." –Chris Matthews, host of Hardball on MSNBC and The Chris Matthews Show on CNBC "Ronn Owens is not left or right and surely is not always wrong! But he sure does make you think." –Tim Russert, host of Meet the Press "People want to order a la carte. They don’t want the dinner either party offers. An appetizer of pro-choice shouldn’t mean a second course of high taxes. You shouldn’t have to swallow the NRA’s baloney to bring your taxes down. This is what Ronn Owens is all about–neither party, neither ideology, just common sense and political independence." –Dick Morris, FOX News Channel Political Analyst

Sounds interesting. I'll have to see if our little library has it or not.
The next book on my reading list is "The Case for Democracy" by Natan Sharansky. I figure that if President Bush thinks so highly of it, I should probably try to read it and see where he's coming from.

There’s going to be potentially some transition process. I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out where we’ve got a much more portable system. (2007) Barack Obama |
