Does my baby have acid reflux?

Hi everyone! My baby boy Gavin is two months old tomorrow. For the past few weeks he screams after feedings. I thought it was gas so our ped told us to use Gripe Water and Mylicon. The Mylicon seems to do nothing for him, but the Gripe Water seems to soothe him a bit. He spits up (what looks like) half of his bottle and then proceeds to scream afterwards. He does not like to lay on his back at all! If he is he grunts and squirms, arches his back, just appears to be very uncomfortable. This makes it difficult for anyone to sleep!

I read about acid reflux and he seems to fit the description. My next ped appt is not until March 23rd so I was looking for other options to soothe him. My mom told me that I had the same problem around 2 months and she was told to use a little rice cereal in his formula to weigh the formula down so he does not spit up as much. I have been trying this, but still have no clue how much to put in his bottle. He drinks 6 oz of Enfamil Gentlease and I put 1.5 tsp of rice cereal in his bottle, actually this does seem to work! He does not spit up as much and he's not screaming nearly as much as he use to.

Does this sound like Acid Reflux? And if so how do you control it? Thanks for your help!!

I had the same problems with one of my twins. I never did get a doctor to believe me about the reflux. I found that she slept very well sitting up in the swing. I have also heard of some people that would put the baby in the car seat in the crib and they slept well.

I would first ask how old Gavin in? Colic tends to resolve around 3-4mos of age whereas untreated reflux will linger. Also reflux symptoms tend to center around mealtime wheras colic involves long hours of crying, usually at night, and not just around mealtime. If you suspect reflux, we have a bb just for that: http://www3.fertilethoughts.com/foru...play.php?f=162 Good luck

Kimmy that sounds like acid reflux to me! Carter was 9 months old this week and we are still dealing with reflux all dat everyday! She has been on enfamil AR her whole life and prevacid as well. His screaming to me sounds like he is in pain. Does he arch his back? I would ask your doc to try something to sooth his discomfort and if he doesn't seem worried I would get a second opinion b/c it is painful for them! Carter has gotten better as we get older but she still projectiles after every bottle and between every bottle. I know most doctors say "as long as they are gaining weight i am not worried" but they are still hurting. We have seen 2 GI docs and had an upper GI scan and they say Carter just has tyo grow out of it. But the medicine does help ALOT!!

Hey Ladies! Sorry I haven't responded in awhile, been busy. In fact I'm dealing with Gavin's first head cold now. (fun, fun) Poor little guy. Anyways we changed him to a new formula, Nutramigen, and he is a completely different baby. He doesn't spit up as often or as much, he has no gas, and isn't irritable any more. I seriously want to write the Nutramigen company and thank them personally for coming up with a hypoallergenic formula. lol. I truly appreciate everyone's advice!!! I just can't live with out you ladies! You're a life saver!!!

I'm glad the nutramigen worked for you - my dd couldnt stand it and lost a half pound in a week, which just goes to show every kid is different. Good luck and cute pics!
