Ziggy,
I am sorry the new baby is not feeling well and sorry I did not see this post until just now. Colic usually appears between 2-4 weeks of age and lasts 3-4mos. I would encourage you to read the stickies on this bb and see if anything rings true. One sign that I found that differentiated colic from GERD (which dd also had) was distinct periods of crying each day. At first these episodes lasted from about 11pm-4am and then after several weeks adjusted to late afternoon. They did not happen every day but we definitely met the 3x a week cutoff normally given for dx. They call it the rule of 3: 3 or more hours of crying, 3 or more times a week that lasts about 3 months.
I think colic is one of the hardest things to deal with because the babies are so young and you feel powerless to help them. This can be just as hard psychologically on mom as it is physically on baby. So I encourage you to take care of yourself whenever possible, like maybe a hot bath or a relaxation session while dh takes care of the kiddos. If it is colic, this too shall pass. If it is GERD you can get help on the bb dedicated to that as well as talking to your ped about a referral to a GI specialist.
Take care,
Kate
