    ADHD med revealing Ticks?

Have any of your children had ticks show up with their ADHD meds? Zoe is just starting to work the med cycle and one day on Concerta 18mg and we have ticks. Mouth moving back & forth with lip licking. She is totally unconcious of it happening. (we also had a lot of sadness and emotional outbursts today).

So I am not continuing with Concerta, sent a note to the doc and he is suggesting another med (Methylin ER).

did your kid have tics on other meds also? That really freaked DH & I out.

also, what did you do with all the meds that did not work? The scripts are written for 30 days, you use 1-4 days and then no more. I don't like flushing them because of the environment but am uncomfortable putting them into the trash also.

    sorry.. no ticks here.

we didn't have a good experience with Concerta.

It made DS over emotional and crazy aggressive.

we've had ticks but we had them before the meds too. We found that the tics go away over time so we learn to live with some. it's a trade off for the benefits that they get from the medication.

As for disposal, our pharmacy told us to dump the unused meds into used kitty litter and dump as many disgusting things like coffee grounds etc on top and then dispose in the trash. I had a lot of my deceased mil's meds to get rid of.

I have had the tongue going back and forth and the lip licking. It was when I was on Seroquel. It's a condition called Tardive Dyskenesia. I had to stop that med slowly and fortunately the syptoms faded out. I can never take that class of meds again.

I am guessing that the tics are from one of the meds? Have you asked the Dr. if they are serious or just temporary?

Well, since the tic showed up within 6 hours of the first dose of the med, he is thinking it may be the dosage, so we are trying another "version" of the same medication at a lower dose. Will see how this goes on Saturday. I refuse to try a new drug on a week day now, I couldn't let her risk the teasing, etc that could happen at school with this. It was pretty pronounced and her poor little mouth was numb/exhausted from all the movement.
