I've been having back pain for at least a few weeks now. It feels like my entire back is one big knotted muscle. I'm trying to be rational about it. It started when I hauled our Christmas tree out of the basement and put it up by myself. Then Miss K had a growth spurt, and as I recently mentioned is at the top of the chart weight wise. And then there was the recent vacation with lots of heavy luggage that we hauled through the airport. This all sounds like a reasonable explanation for back pain, right??
Ginger, did you send your shark to torture me? I thought "Suz the shark killer" got rid of it.![]()

Oh honey (((HUGS))) I would not wish that shark on anyone--especially YOU!!!
Back pain--YUP--got that, as well as the anxiety that goes along with it. I've had numerous bone scans and finally an MRI which determined that I have a touch of arthritis--I was positively thrilled!
From the sound of things, you have strained it, and bear in mind that cold temperatures always make sore muscles and joints worse. Take a long, hot bath, followed by a long drink, and see what that does for you! If the pain persists, just get it checked out to give yourself peace of mind.
More hugs--GingerIL

Nala, I've got back cancer too! LOL
Seriously, my left shoulder and upper back are in so much chronic pain I'm beginning to think I need a PET scan. My chiropractor worked it over and then my armpit swelled up, so that made me feel SURE I had a tumor and node involvement. Luckily I had an appt. with the cancer genetics experts in L.A. and they examined my breast and armpit and my cancer is gone (LOL).
New diagnosis: giant baby + old body = bursitis
DH had surgery on his left wrist in the summer. He calls it his Vanessa injury.
Praying you have the same problems. XO XO XO XO Mary

You poor thing!!!! I bet its just that you strained it! OH and add in the age factor!

Okay,,,,,,, just a lil humor. lol
Seriously though, this weather will make any back strain worse. The muscles tighten when its cold and a normal back strain can feel MUCH worse then it usually would. I am willing to bet with all that tree, luggage, and baby lugging your back is just feeling it!!
HUGS!!!! Have a wonderful Christmas!

Now, see, I had a heavy baby, too. Rico was off the chart in height and 90th percentile in weight and didn't walk until he was SEVENTEEN months old. So, yes, I knew about back pain!
Can you try this? Don't carry/lift Miss K for a few days. Don't lift anything heavy for a few days. Take some motrin. Use a heating pad (or ice, whatever works). In other words, rest it and take an anti-inflammatory and see if that helps. I bet it does!Marie L, Mama to Marielle, 9 and Rico, 8

12-23-2008, 10:30 AM #7I've been trying all of it except not carrying Miss K. It's too hard to resist her when she comes toddling over to me with her arms out saying "mama".

Ginger, that book is hilarious. I'm surprised I haven't received it as a gag gift yet. I think it would push me over the edge.
Yesterday, I was decorating cookies and noticed my fingers were green. A normal, rational person would realize it is because of the green sprinkles. Not me!! I immediately thought something was wrong...."green finger cancer", I guess.

Will the anxiety and 'freaking out' EVER leave us? Checking in late, but hope your back is feeling better and you're not so anxious. You shouldn't have to go through this, especially on Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and Miss K.
I like Marie's advice. Pamper yourself a wee bit.
