If you took it, what was the dosage and how much of a difference did it make, and how soon did you notice the difference?
I have been working for a solid 5 weeks at increasing my milk supply. Its not going well. I finally talked my peri into prescribing me some domperidone even though he typically doesn't. I'm taking 10mg 3x a day, for about a week. Im now getting about 3 to 3.5 ounces per pumping, (when I don't nurse right before). After doing a ton of reading online I see that a lot of women are taking 30mg 3x a day. So I'm wondering if I should call the doc back about a change in the prescription.

Sweetpea...I take 20mg 4x's a day. When I take it on a regular basis it works wonders....the problem is I can't always remember to take it. Good luck. Have you tried oatmeal, the herbs fenugreek and blessed milk thistle. I wish you much luck as you try to build up your supply. It is so hard in the beginning. You are lucky you got your doc to give you a prescription for domperidone.

Yes I'm also taking 6 fenugreek and 6 motherlove per day. I eat oatmeal twice a day and am drinking a lot of water. I pump after each feeding and wake up once during the night to pump (unless I'm just super exhausted, then I just sleep with him.)
I have an appt with lactation to make sure his latch is still good. I'm also going to purchase a medals sns when I get back up to the hospital. Other than that I just don't know what else to do. I refuse to throw in the towel yet!! I only made it to 6 weeks with DD#2 and not much further with DD#1. I really would like to make it at least 6 months this time, preferrably to a year.A-13 years

Sweetpea-Why do you think your supply is low? Is baby having the appropriate amount of wet and dirty diapers? In the beginning I thought my supply was low because baby wanted to eat all of the time, but really, that is just how new babies are....they eat a lot. It sounds like you are doing all of the right things! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. We are cheering you on!

SweatPea- I'm glad you found this forum! KellyMom.com is another great resource! Not only for BF but for BF/Meds ect. I hope your able to get your supply up. How do you know your supply is low? I know there are a lot of doubt i still have with my 10mon old! As long as your LO is having wet diapers and nursing often your supply should be good. It seems as though you are doing everything you can! Don't give up yet!!

I'm pretty sure it's low. When I nurse him he screams for more but there isn't anything there. I pump after (medela symphony double) and don't get much more than a drop on the highest setting. So we give him a bottle (per the ped) and he takes another 4-6 oz. If I pump rather than nurse I only get 3 oz total on a hood pumping. If I go as long as 6 hours (which is very rare) between nursing or pumping I have just under 4 oz total. Lactation appt is on Monday.

I guess I should add that I had this same issue with both girls. I also had a csection which I thought only messed with milk in the beginning but maybe I'm wrong about that. I also have PCOS.

I have PCOS and had a c-sec with the twins. I barely made enough for both of them. I also was not aware of all the help i could have gotten and i did not support, and they were eventually formula fed.
As for Abby, My milk came in on the 3 day. I was surprised I was able to nurse, because of all things i heard about PCOS and not being able to nurse.
Good Luck at your appt Monday!*~* Proud Mommy of *~*

If you have PCOS, then I don't think you should take fenugreek. I have major PCOS and supply issues (mainly with my twins, not so much with my first/single child). When I researched meds to help with milk supply issues, I read that fenugreek should not be taken if you have any blood-sugar issues or take any meds that can affect blood sugar. If you are actively taking meds for PCOS like metformin, re-evaluate the fenugreek. I don't know if anything bad would happen if you do take it, but maybe it will be useless or somewhat negative to your system.
I took Reglan for a month or so, had great results the first week, then completely tanked after that. Wanted to try Domperidone but my female OB was a total b***h about bfeeding issues ("it didn't work for me and it sounds like it won't work for you") and never gave me the prescription I wanted. Later found a new ob/gyn. Looked into fenugreek and didn't take it due to the PCOS and Metformin.
I had multiple appointments with LC's. I asked about how PCOS affects milk supply, and at the time they didn't know much. One lady did say it can cause you to have over-supply or under-supply, depending on your body. I also had c/s each time but don't think that really affected much about my supply. I wasn't on Metformin for my first/singlton pg and during my first child bfing time, but was on Met for the entire second/twin pg and bfing time, and that's where I had serious under-supply issues. I talked to my RE about it later, and he said that the PCOS issues can also affect supply (roller coaster effect), but he didn't know much either. I also had some PPD that went away both times after I stopped bfing, and my RE said that could easily be related to the PCOS-&-holding your-hormones-hostage situation that goes along with bfing.
I hope you find a good solution about your supply, but don't feel bad if you make a decision to do X or Y. Your baby will be fine and happy as you will always take good care of him one way or another.
