Crying / Fussy baby

Please help - any ideas?

Sometimes my LO is so fussy or just plain crying her eyes out when she is hungry - but this is so disturbing to her she can't calm down to latch. I try to go through the motions anyways thinking when she latches she'll calm down, but last night, she just kept crying and crying. Does this happen to anyone else? I wonder if she was too tired? just crabby? nothing obvious was wrong, she was calm one second and crying/screaming the next. I was trying to get her to latch onto my right side, which is the harder side to do for her for some reason. She did finally latch onto my left side. It is traumatic for both of us and makes me want to quit BF.

Thanks

I forget how old your LO is, but my DD did this so much around the 3 to 5 month mark. VERY frustrating, and it always happened late in the day and before bed. I thought it was a supply issue, but she was just sooooo tired. How is she sleeping during the day? Once I got DD on a better nap/feeding schedule, the fussiness you're describing stopped.

I actually used to feed DD before putting her down for a nap -- that's when we had problems. I started nursing her instead about an hour after she gets up or as soon as she gets up. She is more alert for the feeding, eats better, and goes down for a nap better.

Hi Julie, my DD is 3 1/2 months old. She did not nap well yesterday and was fussy. but today she had slept 10 hours last night and then had an hour nap. I'm not so sure why she was crying today. Her naps are very erratic. Some days she naps / eats / naps and other times she cat naps and is much more playful throughout the day.

Part of it is probably her age. Current DD was a VERY fussy baby until she started napping regularly.

Could it be gas? That was the problem sometimes here.

Also, getting DD to take a pacifier helped with the fussiness sometimes too.

Her naps are still pretty irregular. Yesterday all three of her naps were interrupted, then she fell asleep at 8:00 which is early for her. She was up at 230 and took two 3.5 ounce bottles of breast milk (I had 3 glasses of wine after 8 thinking she would be sleeping through the night like she usually does so I didn't want to nurse her then). She went back to sleep at 330/400 and now I'm going to have to wake her up and it's almost 830 a.m. I am looking forward to regular naps.
