Weaning twins at 12 months, but one has major attachment issues! Ideas?

I am going to wean my twins when they turn 12 months (2 months from now) which is 6 month earlier than when I weaned my 2 singletons. My singletons went from nursing to sleep to taking a water bottle at bedtime and it was very smooth. I nurse the twins to sleep at night time and at naps and I know this is not going to be a very smooth transition. One of my girls is SOOOOO attached to the breast and REFUSES to drink from a bottle or a sippy cup, even when I am at work all day... she just strikes.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break the nursing -to-sleep cycle other than cold turkey? And, any suggestions on how to get either of them to take a bottle?!

I have created two very adorable, very stubborn little monsters...

    Wow! :

Have you tried the Playtex soft straw cup? That's what I had to use with both of mine. Dip the tip of the straw in your EBM and then a bit of sugar and they'll suck the EBM right up through that straw with no problem. You'll only have to do this a time or two and then they'll get the idea. Breastfed babies usually have an easier time with drinking from a straw too.

As far as nursing to sleep -- do you have help with this at night? A SO or a dh? My dh took over for me at night at a set time and each night would rock the baby to sleep. The first night was a little strange, but each of mine accepted it and bed time became my dh's duty until nursing was a long-forgotten thing of the past for them. Have your helper take over the nighttime routine from brushing teeth/gums to dressing to everything and you stay far away -- as if you aren't there. That may help get you started.

    Congratulations!!!! BIG milestone!!!!

My ds was never a fan of the bottle either and I weaned him directly to a sippy cup starting at a year. He refused the bottle, but I didn't have a problem with the sippy so I'm not sure what to tell you. My best guess is that you may have no choice but to go cold turkey at which point she'll have no choice but to take a cup. Good luck!

I found my pair would take EBM in a sippy cup only if I wasn't around... I tried to get mine to take it in a cup as they won;t touch a bottle!) because i had to go out one night a week and I was desperate to make sure they would take it before I had to leave them with mum... they wouldn't.. anyhow.. I just had to leave them with mum and they took it no probs... since them i have noticed that they only take ebm in a cup if i'm not around. They'll take it of they are hungry enough as my mum says.

Good luck!!! And well done for getting to this stage!!!!!!
