BF Bowel Movements
I have a question for all you BFing mommies. What are the bowel movements like and how often are your little ones having them. My baby is having a movement every diaper change which is like every 2 hours. His poor bumm is sore already. If I look at it in the diaper it looks mustardy which I know is normal, but I've actually seen it coming out. He likes to wait until I'm changing him.....Anyway, it's very liquidy. It's watery with mustard particles in it. He kept wetting the back of his onesie and sleeper and I couldn't figure out why the urine was wetting his back side. Now I think it's part of his bowel movement that's coming out the top, but it's clear. Could this be diahrea? Is this normal? I will call the dr tomorrow, but I thought some of you may know. Could it be urine in the back and the vaseline from his circumcision is causing it to go all over the place? Thanks for any help.

Bf'd babies usually have several bowel movements in a day. I remember my little guy having a poop in every diaper for the first 2-3 months. It should be mustard like with seeds in it.
The leaking could very well be caused by the vaseline as the urine repells off of it and therefore the diaper is unable to absorb. There was a recommendation of using one size up while the circumcision healed to allow for my diaper area to absorb the urine. If his bum is red the best thing for it is vaseline or baking soda. Try to avoid perfume wipes as they can also irritate it. A warm wash cloth is best! Good Luck and congrats on your little guy! Christa |

Sounds normal... and good advice given from Blue. Bfed babies sometimes go after or during every feeding. For my oldest, that meant 12 bowel movements a day!
