I breast-fed my youngest adopted son

Three years ago we brought home our son, who was only a few days old. I had adopted his older brother a few years earlier, and I suspected this precious angel was lactose intolerant as well.

I met with a La Leche League consultant and was able to get a Medala supplementer. Using the supplementer, I fed my son raw goat's milk. Within a few days, my son had a greenish stool, evidence that I was producing colostrum. But my son was gulping his formula - the Medela supplementer was giving the milk to him too fast.

Then I switched to a Lact-aid supplementer, and it worked much better. My breasts got really sore; I could tell a difference immediately. A friend recommended I take Fenugreek, and I do believe it helped increase my flow of milk, but I never got off the supplementer for fear my son wouldn't get enough nutrition. He thrived on the combination of raw goat's milk and my own milk.

I developed an incredibly strong bond with my son, far stronger than with any of my other adopted children. Today, he is a sweet, loving and happy little boy.

I wouldn't trade my experience for anything!
