Any future A-moms out there planning to BF???

I am just starting out with adoption research, etc. We're hoping to have our homestudy done by the end of the year and in the "pool" before the first of the year. I also plan on Bfing our baby. I've done alot of research, and thought it would be great if there were others who were in the same boat to share info, experiences, and support during this time!!

Happy Summer!

Not sure if you're aware of this site, but its great: asklenore.com.

Unfortunately, I can't go the FDA approved route and will have to formula feed. I'm sad about it, but my oldest sister was formula fed and tells me (repeatedly) she's the smartest and prettiest in the bunch, haha!

Good Luck

YOu don't have to use Domperidone to induce lactation. If you have enough time you can build pretty darn close to a full milk supply with pumping alone.

To induce without the meds, how long did you have to pump to get results. I am considering this, but do not want to take medications. Also, did you use a feeder to assist as your milk came in?

I did not personally do itn without meds but I did know a couple of people who did. One mom just used the SNS, another the Lact-aid and both did no drugs at all. The one I know from the internet only pumped. She started pumpijng before matcing so she pumped for a total af about 10 months starting with a couple of sessions a day and working up to 8-10x per day earound the clock. She had a full supply by the time her baby came home and never needed a supplimental feeding system.

If you are going to go with just the feeding system you I would seriously encourage you to use the Lact-aid and not the SNS. If you are depending on only the baby to build supply you need to make sure you have the best latch and such possible and I truely believe that the Lact-aid is better at that then the SNS. Also with the SNS you only have one unit so there is much more of a tempation to just use a bottle if it is not clean and ready to use but with the Lact-aid you can prepare several units ahead of time so you are always ready. You can also use the L-A one laying down which makes middle of the night feedings easier.

We are hoping to BF our next adopted child. I didn't with the first and so regret not trying it. I am using the lact-aid for this next one but did try pumping. It got old real quick. Ecspecialy with a toddler wondering what mommy was doing. lol. I was sucessful with pumping the first time though. I think every women is different. Good Luck to you.

I never heard of breastfeeding an adopted child. It sounds like a very cool option- for their health and the mom's emotional health too.

one really weird question- do the woman's breast stay the size they were before bf, or do they get larger like the women who are already prepped for bf?

Thanks for the reply. My husband laughed (I'm a very small chested woman. AA)
and said "wouldn't it be our luck that they don't grow any, but just sag down all flat and funny looking?"

That really made me giggle (a rare thing lately). He's such a goof.

I say- who cares what my chest ends up looking like, if the nutrition is the same- the adopted child will have an advantage rather than formula. After reading alot of stuff online, I think feeding a child formula is much the same as constantly "cooking" microwave ready meals. Not exactly prime nutrition, but you won't be severely harmed by it, you know?

again, thanks for the reply.
