How much milk needed for a newborn?

Does anyone know? how much milk should I be making before I will be able to stop supplementing?

Figure a baby needs between 2.2 and 2.5X their weight in pounds in ozs of milk. So a 7.5 lb baby should be consuming about 16.5 and 18.75 oz in a 24 hour period. Broken down farther if the baby eats every 2-3 hours figure between 1.7 to 1.95 oz per feed. Does that help?

Thanks, Lisa! That does help!

Our baby was a preemie, and was 5 pounds, 5 ounces at last weight check. I made about 14.25 ounces of milk today, so it sounds like I now have enough to feed him. I am bringing bottles, of course, just in case. I am sure we will use a bottle when we go out to dinner with the birth family. Hopefully I can just put breastmilk in the bottle, though, and they'd never know the difference.
