Avoiding work...

Posted 11-04-2009 at 07:32 AM by tdg119

It's what I do best sometimes. I've been avoiding this one project at work and my coworker brought it up again yesterday. It's one of those projects that I don't know why it was given to me in the first place. Coworker and I worked on it together 2 years ago - it was putting together documentation for all business processes within the company. I covered customer service & sales; the only areas I was familiar with. Our boss covered the majority of operations. Coworker covered administration (which has since been moved to parent company) and what was left of operations.

The idea was that these documents would be used for integration purposes. Instead, they sat. They weren't easy to put together either - took us a lot of time and effort. Now they want them redone - when so many things have changed over the course of the years. And of course they want it NOW - despite that it will probably sit again - and despite that the parent company is going to do things their way regardless.

So that's the project I've been avoiding. I've been keeping up with my other work - lord knows there's enough of it. My position is half desktop administrator (IT) and half Microsoft Office Guru - because I'm the only one in the company that knows how to work with Word and Excel documents so they all come my way. People don't know how to sort columns or anything. We've offered training to no avail. It's really pathetic the skills my coworkers lack. And I'm not trying to be mean, but these simple skills could help make their day to day work lives easier and set them up for another job, should they ever decide to jump ship. Though around here, this is most people's first job and they stay forever. Said coworker has been here 8 years. Yeah, it's a long time, but whoop-dee-do, she has no other experience to compare it to. All she knows is this company and the back-@$$ way they do things. I've seen a spectrum of the corporate world and what we do here is gravy compared to it.

Anyways...vent over. Before I "dive in" to that "awesome" project...I'm trying to get a jump start on my homework. I already finished my English homework for this week - want to finish it for next week too - just have to write 5 business letters. I think there's only one more assignment after that! I just need to do some finish-up work on my Speech for that class; symposium teleconference is tomorrow at 6:30 pm. I can't wait to get it over with. I got a good grade on my outline at least so I feel confident going into it. I haven't even checked what is on my plate for the remainder of that class. I think it's all group stuff...lovely. Even so, I think we're down to 5 assignments left for that class. We're drawing to a close and I couldn't be happier. I have A's in both classes right now so I'd have to really screw up to fail. I need a 'C' so I don't have to pay back my company for the tuition.

I'll just be happy when the work week is over. This weekend we're heading to NJ for haircuts. I only get mine cut 1-2x a year and I have no idea what to do with it. I have really thick (numerous stylists have told me I have the thickest hair they've ever dealt with), coarse hair that tends to get wavy in all the wrong spots. I like it long, and it usually lays best long, but thinking it's probably better off short w/ babies. So, we'll see. DH said the "bang" look is coming back too - I haven't had bangs since soon after I met him and they were "out" of fashion. I am afraid if I went back to them I'd just look exactly the same as high school all over again.

Guess I'll get going. One bright point in my day is that the Diaper Bag I ordered will be delivered to my work today. I ordered it from Land's End (in khaki) and I hope it's as nice and big as it looked online!

This is the diaper bag I got my friend Melissa before she had our Godson..... she loves it!! It's roomy, lots of pockets to keep stuff organized, it's good quality and will really take a beating!! I got her the red and black one because it coordinated with her travel gear and the colors are so nice.... when the time comes our diaper bag will definitely come from here!!

The diaper bag just arrived and I am really liking it! It's nice and big without being TOO big. Color's great. I'm all about little pockets and compartments and it seems to have plenty to help stay organized. (We'll have to see how it holds up once it's filled with baby clutter.) I think it'll be perfect for me...we'll see

I have really thick hair, wavy and even curly underneath/in the back but stick straight in the front and on top. I just had it cut into a sort of a bob. I showed some photos to the stylist and she said it wouldn't work b/c my hair isn't straight, but she could do something similar. I love it. I will have to have it cut more often, but it will be easier to deal with and I won't always want to put it in a ponytail.
