Business dining etiquette

Tonight, the members of the Student Association board were invited to attend a business dining etiquette night in the President's office at the school. Dh and I are both on the board so we both had the privilege to attend. We treated it as a mini-date since we had to get a babysitter and we got all dressed up. First was an hour-long presentation given by a former colleague of the President. She touched on subjects ranging from business attire to conversation, RSVPing and introducing people to each other. Then were we seated and served a 5 course dinner, complete with the whole shebang of place settings. We were given foods that may be difficult to eat and the etiquette lady coached us through each portion. We had shrimp cocktail, a vegetable soup, salad, the main course was a beef shishkebob, rice and asparagus. I'd actually never tasted asparagus, so I was pleasantly surprised when I liked the taste! For dessert, we had apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! I can't say that I've ever had a fancier meal! We were also offered wine during our meal, just before the main course. Since dh and I don't drink (there was one other guy at our table that doesn't either), we all declined politely, as instructed by Ms. Etiquette.![]()
The whole affair was 3.5 hours long and we had told the babysitter we would be 3 hours at the LATEST. I kept asking dh for the time and I was freaking out!! I hadn't given her any instructions on putting the kids to bed because I was sure that we'd be home by 8:30pm. Luckily, she had the notion to put at least Gavin down, which I was grateful for. When I went in and checked on him, I didn't recognize his pajamas as being his and then I realized that's because they were BLAKE'S!!!The top actually didn't look to bad on him for being a 3T!!
It was a great night and we learned a lot of information that I'm sure we'll (hopefully) be able to use in the future. I'm especially glad that I got to attend since I foresee myself attending functions with dh as a doctor's wife.
