The birthing floor was very busy, 12 moms all having babies. I had the nicest room so if Ava did have to stay, I would have to be on a different floor. I just could not believe this was happening. DH had to go book a room for $40 on one of the floors so we couldmake sure and get a room if we did have to. This was the last room available.

Of course, once DH left, in walks the pediatrician to tell us he heard from the urologist. We were going to be able to leave with Ava to go home. I was so relieved. He explained they might have to put a drain in Ava’s kidney to relieve the pressure and bring the swelling down, then go in again once it isn’t so large and see whatis causing the blockage, so 2 surgeries on our little baby.

He said they are going to send the films to the Cities for the urologist to look at and decide on when this should happen. In the meantime, we are to have her on an antibiotic everyday, so she does not develop any kind of infection in her good kidney. The reflux can make urine travel back up into her kidneys, so we want to avoid any kidney infection. The blood work she had done also wasn’t bad, but wasn’t the greatest. We have to have it repeated and hope the numbers go down for her age. DH returned from booking the room and the doc had to repeat everything to him again since he had missed it. Then DH was able to go back and cancel the room. We were able to get ready to go home once we got rx’s and our orders.

We waited for hours to get all our stuff. There was some obvious miscommunication. The doctor said he would talk to us once more and he never returned. It took forever to get out of there. We arrived home at 9:00 Thursday night. My house was a total disaster, I am so glad my sitter was considerate enough at least load the dishwasher.

The kids were soooo excited that we were home. They gathered all around Ava’s car seat to welcome her. We were home and it felt fantastic.

It is neat to read your memories. I'm so glad you are writing them down! (not for me, but for your family!!)
