I am 34 years old and have no children (yet) although my partner and I have decided to start trying. I have been having frequent daily hot flushes for a few months now and terrible headaches and am constantly waking during the night. My last period was 3 months ago. I had a blood test and last week discovered I have an FSH level of 49. My doctor has told me I have a 5% chance of getting pregnant if I start trying now and has referred me to a specials at the hospital. I have to wait up to 3 months for this appointment. I am absolutely gutted and can't stop crying. I have looked forward to having children for my entire life and can't imagine my life without them. Can anyone help me and tell me what I can do to increase my chances? I would love to hear from others who have such a high FSH. Is this too high to ever fall pregnant? Lots of people who complain of high FSH on forums I have read have had levels between 10 and 20 and mine is way past this.

    Hi Roma,

I am sure that once you speak with the specialist, you will feel a bit more at ease. It isn't easy receiving a diagnosis like high FSH. I am so sorry you are going through this!

With high FSH, you may have the option of doing IVF with your own eggs, but it is more likely your doctor will suggest using donor egg. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find lots of support here from women in the same situation. You can read more about high FSH here and join the FSH discussion board here.

    Best of luck to you!

    Hi Roma
I was told last October that my FSH was 125!! My fiancé and I decided to try IVF even though my doctor was not optimistic. I stimulated but only produced one egg which did not fertilize normally. We tried again...one egg again and this one fertilized normally but did not implant. We have decided to do a donor egg. It has been a tough road but I knew I had to try. I don't know you or your situation but if you feel you need to try to have a baby through IVF I would do it! If I could attempt it with my levels you can sure try it. I'm not a doctor so this is just my opinion

Good luck. I totally understand what you are going through.

    Hi Roma,

I know exactly how you are feeling! I found out at 26 that I have high FSH (61.8) I wish I could give you advice, but I am in the exact same place as you are--just starting out. One thing I can say is that you should ask your doctor about the AMH test. Apparently it is more accurate in determining your fertility--at least thats what I understand from what I've read.

Best of luck to you! Keep your chin up and stay positive!
