PSA for Angel Food

I was out and about early this Saturday morning--I had to pick up our Angel Food order at a local church. It's a great church--if I wasn't Catholic it would be on my list of churches to check out. They actually have been kind enough to host our Daisy troop meetings and their facilities are absolutely perfect.

I love Angel Food. I don't think enough people know about it or use it. I think a lot of people think it's 'charity' so they don't qualify. It's not! Angel Food is or everyone!

This month in the standard $30 box I got....
4 NY Strip Steaks individually frozen (these look excellent!)
4 Pork chops (these are bone in--sometimes they are boneless)
Pack of Kielbasa (6 pieces--great for the grill)
1.5 pounds of breaded chicken nuggets
Salisbury Steak entree (my kids and dh LOVE this--I can do without)
1 pound 80% lean ground beef
1 pound frozen corn
1 pound frozen fancy string beans
1 pound frozen carrots
5 pounds fresh potatoes
1 can spaghetti sauce
1 pound spaghetti
2 pounds rice
1 pack of moon pies (yeah, baby--the dessert item is always a surprise)
1 dozen large eggs
1 quart shelf stable milk (this is standard monthly--I just save them or use them in baking. They came in VERY handy during one of our crazy blizzards!)
And a loaf of foaccia (is it a loaf??) bread.

I swear I have forgotten something. I just don't know what it is!

Check it out--Angelfoodministries.com . They have lots of boxes--fruits and veggies, grill specials, seafood and allergan free, too! The more boxes that are bought the more food they are able to donate to those that really need it.

We've used them in the past. I wish the location was closer for us, but they are really wonderfu.

I need to check into it. I know my sisters could use it too but their area doesn't have anything yet and they are 1 hr drive from me.

I did it in a previous state. There is one here but they have a one hour window for pick up and if you can't be there then (and we have another commitment that day of the week in the morning) you're out of luck. So I haven't been able to do it here.

You got way more than I'm expecting next Saturday. I'm expecting only one pound of rice, only three pounds of potatoes and no bread. Were those extra that came through the church?

I've never had moon pies so I hope that's what we get in our location. Anything would be better than those tiny little six packs of "flavored" cookies we got here a couple of months ago. Blech.

K--The bread is extra thru this particular church--they have a huge table and you pick what you want. I guess I should have mentioned that. The Church I used previously would often throw in something extra as well--usually a veggie.

I don't know about the rice and potatoes--I didn't compare to the menu--I just recorded what was sitting on the counter.

I did not get the bread but the rest we did! You forgot the dozen eggs I think.

We like angel food most of the time sometimes the premade thing they throw is in gross but everything else makes up for it!

One time the church in my old city got in a bunch of unlabeled cans and individual Quaker Oatmeal packets. People could take whatever they wanted and it was fun finding out what was in the "surprise" cans. I think that was the only time we had any extras. You're lucky!
