what a production this is turning out to be. I swear I never do anything the easy way. I dont know what got into me, but apparently I forgot that the communion this year is on a Sat...Andrew's favorite restaurant, where he wanted his reception after, is a family style hall that only serves dinners on Sundays (except for weddings etc where you have to book a room). We have done all our Christenings etc there, and we love the place. I know that bec its family style, reservations dont need to be made that far in advance, so I waited to call
Two weeks ago I get an invite to my little cousins communion, and wow, his mom made these things to look like wedding invites (as my brother says, she has way too much time on her hands) ....so getting that in the mail made me think to call...as I am on the phone with the restaurant inquiring on Sunday dinner, I realize the party would be on Saturday, and I start freaking out. I start calling other places I know that are relatively close and they are all booked! Finally remembered this small Italian place thats run by some people we know and I called...he moved some things around for us and can accomodate us, and since he knows us, will give us a break on the cost ($10 per person rather than $18, for full family style 6 course Italian dinner).
Ok, thats done...I send the invites out, relatively generic type invites, but I dont worrry about that. My mom bought his suit while we were in FLA and know I have to find him a tailor (he is a 10 in the jacket but even 8's in pants are too big)...ok, I can do that on Friday this week....cake I can order on Friday too...
thought I was out of the woods, til i remembered...favors!!! ACK....my family usually does a Capodimonde piece for communions, but honestly, right now, with the paycuts and accident, I dont have the $$ for at least 40 pieces of it. So, I found a great website with tons of favors, at a reasonable cost. I ended up getting votive candles, in a clear box with a nice tag with his name, the date and the cross on it, along with the typical Italian bombaniere *Jordan almonds in a tulle bag*...I was able to get 45 pieces (one per person including children) for $66 and they ensure I will have delivery within 6 business days (plenty of time for the party)....
good thing I have a while to go to plan weddings, I am so disorganized lately
(oh, and if you think I am going overboard, trust me, in a large Italian family, I took the small/cheap way out)...
