Polar Express, more information for those who want to know

Our Polar Express is run byThe Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad I'm not sure what year this is for them running the Polar Express but it's normally a sold out event. This is the first year I can think of that they had open tickets on line.
The last two years we went out of the Independence Station in the Cleveland area. However, this year because I dilly dallied and asked several family members if they wanted to go, we will be expriencing it for the first time from the Canton Station.
It runs from right about Thanksgiving until the weekend before Christmas.
Those who have tickets load into the cars pretty quickly as it's pretty cold out side and the kids are running around in their pj's. Everyone gets settled down and the "Head Elf" takes the floor and explains what's going to happen. The "Head Elf" controls what goes on during the ride. We sing songs, read the story the Polar Express and have hot cocoa and cookies. Than you arrive at the North Pole and see the other "elfs" and Jack Frost (who knew that Jack Frost was a white dog LOL). Wave and so forth.
Than you head back to your station and on the way Santa, who got on at the North Pole. Visits with every child on the train. Each child gets a bell too.
The whole trip takes about 2 hours.
The first year they had a car for buying gifts and other train stuff but last year, they had a place at the station to purchase things. It's really hard to have people going through your train car to go to the gift shop while your trying to enjoy the ride.
They CVSR also limits you to 8 tickets per order. So when I ordered I had to order twice to get enough tickets for us. If you order so many they try to make sure that you get seats together.

They didn't do lottery this year--ALL tickets went on sale online Oct. 5. So that's how you managed to get tickets.
I got ours around 9 PM that night and couldn't get a single night in December (weekend night), and very few week nights were open. We are going Nov. 30. We're not telling ds . . . just like with Thomas, we'll keep quiet and just drive to the station. He's getting special pj's for the train ride from Grandmama and Grandpapa, but we'll keep those "secret," too, until late that afternoon when we take an early bath and have dinner in pj's before leaving for the trip.
Can't wait!Posted 11-07-2009 at 10:25 PM by tle

That's interesting, in that I got my normal yearly, "purchase your membership and get x number of tickets before the lottery" letter.Quote:They didn't do lottery this year--ALL tickets went on sale online Oct. 5. So that's how you managed to get tickets.

We decided not to join again this year and I put off calling about tickets until after they were online. Of course Ben started to talk about going so we got tickets. This year we're going with 11 other people. Should be tons of fun.
R will love the ride.Posted 11-08-2009 at 07:29 PM by lrmc
