DH and vacation time

DH's job has this whacked-out policy where they can only carry over 240 hours of annual leave each fiscal year, which ends each June. But if there's anything over 240 hours left at the end of June, they have to use the balance by the end of September.

Anyway, DH went into this week thinking he had 248 hours so had to use 8 by the end of the month and could take it Friday. But no... he had it flipped. It's a 284-hour balance - 44 hours over!

He figured ok, he'll just take the rest of the week off and they can credit the rest somehow. But no... they're working on some huge project that he has a key role in (this is true, it's not some cocamamie ploy). So as it stands right now, they're going to let him take time off at a later date and they just won't dock him for it.

Ugh! Anytime he tries to take leave, they either have him come in for something or call. And they wonder why he always has so much leave built up

Oh well, the one bright point in this is, they absolutely have to let him use the excess leave sooner rather than later; otherwise they'll get in huge trouble with the state legislature. One of the "perks" (if you can call it that) of working for a state-run institution, I suppose.

So...what is he going to do with all that time off? Are you cruising through Home Depot checking out paint colors?

Or is he in charge of the Joe-Man while you travel up to Vermont to see the fall colors?

The Fed govt has that BS policy also..Use or lose but by Dec 31st.. DH is rarely able to take a day off due to the nature of his job..He did get a vacation this year but that is not always the case...Frustrating

Hope he finds a way to use it. Our company only allows 40 hours carryover that has to be used within the next 6 months.
