So, I'm here at Children's with Lily, this makes time #3 for us (she's been admitted twice before for the same issues). She started coughing on Wednesday and it just got worse and worse. Yesterday we had their birthday party (they turned 3 on Friday) and I could tell yesterday that she wasn't herself, she didn't want to play with the other kids, she just wanted to cuddle. We had a really rough night last night, I was exhausted (first I had the easter egg hunt at church then I came home and had a houseful for the party and the last guests didn't leave until after 9:00 pm), Lily was up pretty much every hour, she couldn't breathe, couldn't get comfortable and she was burning up. This morning she was coughing really bad and bringing stuff up with her coughs, she wasn't eating or drinking, she was very lethargic and I could tell that her breathing was labored. DH didn't think I needed to bring her in, he thought we could just give her a bunch of nebs and she would be fine. So I called the nurse line and explained her symptoms and she had me count Lily's breaths and said if it was more than 40 per minute to bring her in, I counted and it was close to 60. So I got in the shower and got a bag packed up (good thing too) and we headed out, DH stayed home with Talon. We got right in to triage and they could immediately tell that she was "off". They took her vitals and said they would be sending us straight back, we got a room right away and were seen by the nurse and doctor very quickly. They gave her motrin for her fever (it was about 102-103) and Prednizone and then gave her 3 nebs right in a row. She did great with most everything, that hardest part was getting her to take the Prednizone, they gave it to her orally and she spit most of it out. She also wouldn't let the nurse take her temp orally, she refused to open her mouth, so he had to stick with taking it under her arm. After the 3 nebs they took us back for a chest x-ray, I got different explanations on the results, one doctor said she had pneumonia and another said they couldn't really tell from the x-ray. As of right now she hasn't been given any antiboitics for pneumonia, they think whatever she has is just viral. We finally got admitted and got a room around 5:00 pm. She's been getting nebs every 2 hours and is on 2 liters of oxygen. They tried to lower her oxygen but her stats dropped so she will probably be on 2 liters throughout the night. I'm guessing she'll be staying at least one more night, unless she makes a miraculous recovery by morning. DH's parents are coming down tomrrow to watch Talon so DH can come relieve me and I can go home and shower and take the night shift again. I thought we were going to make it all night without an IV but she just wasn't eating or drinking and hadn't had a wet diaper since before noon, so about a 1/2 hour ago she got an IV, she did awesome, I was so proud of her. DH and Talon came by to visit a couple of hours ago, as they were leaving Talon gave Lily a hug and kiss, it was the sweetest thing ever, I so wish I would have had my camera to capture that moment. Right now we are sitting together watching Chicken Little. I'm going to turn out the lights in a few minutes and hopefully she will go to sleep, she is so tired (as am I), we both need a good night's sleep, let's hope we get one!!!
