nap strikes, scribbling and evil parenting books

lately my girls have been resisting some naps. yesterday it was the afternoon nap and today it's the morning nap. i'm not sure what's going on with that. i don't think they're ready to go to one nap a day yet. the problem is, if one doesn't want to nap, she keeps the other up! going to try a little CIO for now.
i was reading one of my parenting books last night. what to expect - the toddler years. and it had some shocking things in there for the 13th month. like that they may be able to scribble???? scribble? are you kidding me? i can't be the only parent who hasn't even considered giving their 12 month old a crayon and paper. they still eat paper. why am i always shocked at the things those books say kids can do. i mean mine have surpassed some of the things, like walking. they can do that. but they're nowhere near feeding themselves, helping me fold laundry (yes, it said that) and scribbling.
sometimes i wish i wouldn't read those books. but other times i do get some good ideas from them.

folding laundry? thats insane! Crayons didn't even come to mind until everyone in hte AHM group tried it. I bought the big crayons and we do a structured color time but it's usually US coloring and her eating the crayons or taking them from us and passing them back and forth. lol
I don't do the parenting books for that reason...too many different ideas influencing me, I would get all upset.

    Hey Peep!

First of all, you have twins!! Multiples are "usually" born a bit early, so you have the adjusted age thing and they are a bit behind developmentally, so you cannot compare them to singleton growth milestones, so don't because it will seem like they are behind, but they are not! My two were late walkers, talkers and yes, scribblers..lol..heck, they will still try to eat a crayon at age 3, if they get bored or hungry enough and don't forget taking the label off the crayons. That is fun stuff for toddlers. Why color when you can eat, break, or peel off the label of the crayon to make a big mess for mommy? Anyway, I think my two are doing fine now, probably ahead of the game, so I worried for nothing. And folding laundry and scribbling at age 12 months? That seems ridiculous, although maybe there are a few babies out there that could do that, but none I know of. And doing that regularly? I seriously doubt it! So you cannot pay too much attention to those books. And I think it was Einstein who did not talk until he was 5, and he did not turn out so bad, did he? And kids with older siblings, I think, develop faster because they have an older role model, my two had no role models and yours don't either, so they will just develop at their own rate and catch up later on. Anyway, please try not to worry about these things! If you start worrying again, come here and I will give you a big forehead smack.....hee hee
