viral nature of youtube

An example of the viral nature of youtube.com went on in our house last night. Shortly after 11:00 I went downstairs to find DH, who was updating a computer in the basement. I told him I had received yet another rejection of a short story, and while he was commiserating I sang an adulterated version of an old song by Johnny Paycheck.
Cathy (sings): Take this story and shove it/ And don't send us any more.
DH (laughs): How does the song go from there?
Cathy hums a bit, laughs, shrugs, says he should find it on youtube. DH does so. They listen to Johnny Paycheck sing "Take This Job and Shove It." Boring, DH says: Cathy likes it better, but it's not her fav. Reminds DH that there was a pretty good version on the movie Office Space. Ah yes! DH and Cathy find this version, by Canibus, and watch it with lively commentary and criticism.
Cathy: I'll tell you what scene I loved in that movie: the scene set to "**** It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta."
Bill: Ah ha!
Of course that scene from Office Space is on youtube. They watch it, complete with sound track.
Cathy: You know another funny scene: the one where they attack the printer with baseball bats?
DH begins to type.
Cathy: No! No! No! I'm going to bed!
Indeed tears herself away and goes up to bed to find out that she and DH have whiled away nearly an hour on youtube and it is now after midnight, instead of the normal bedtime she had planned.
A new rule: never start watching youtube late at night.
