End of a chapter

And a nice one at that.

Today is the final day of my "normal" for the last 6 years. I left full-time teaching when I was pregnant with Dylan. I went back to part-time work (consulting) when he was about 2. Since then I've worked a couple of days a week and pretty much made my own schedule. I loved making it light around the holidays and of course in the summer. If Dylan had a half day, no problem - I just made sure I wasn't expected in a school on those days. My flexible...

I got the job!

Posted 06-19-2009 at 01:10 PM by BC-JoanneNY

I can't believe it. Looks like I'm going to be an Assistant Principal of a K-5 school.

I'm thrilled (they make it so da*n hard to get the job that you wouldn't dare think twice about whether you want it or not ) but I'm nervous as well. Big life changes. I've been working part-time in various school districts since Dylan was 2 but this will be my first step back into the full time, outside the home, workforce. One step at a time. I'm sure I'll adjust once I get a...

And then there were two

Had my second interview yesterday (15 people around the table this time ) and received the call this morning that I've made it to the final round. Down to two of us. My final interview will be this Thursday at 2:15 and last about 45 minutes. Smaller group this time....I'll be meeting with the superintendent of the district for the first time and three others that I've already interviewed with - the assistant superintendent, the director of curriculum, and the principal.

...

On to round two...

Posted 06-09-2009 at 07:14 PM by BC-JoanneNY

252 applicants.

12 interviewed.

Down to five.

I made the cut. Second round interviews are next Monday. I was a WRECK last week for the first one and it was only 20 minutes long. This one will be 40. Valium here I come. And off to buy yet another top that is high enough to completely cover the hives that I'm sure to be sporting on my chest.

Job interview Friday

Posted 06-01-2009 at 12:25 PM by BC-JoanneNY

Guess I'm really going to do this. If nothing else, it will be good interview experience - haven't been on one of those since the 80s . I'm so on the fence about the possibility of going back to work full-time (especially at a new type of job), but in this economy I can't just ignore an opportunity. I know how lucky I would be to get a pretty high paying job when things are so rough everywhere (it's an assistant principal position).

I'm spoiled - I've been working since I was about...

Graduation...yes, or no?

Posted 05-12-2009 at 06:52 AM by BC-JoanneNY
Updated 05-12-2009 at 06:59 AM by BC-JoanneNY

Trying to decide if I should attend my graduation ceremony next Wednesday. My SIL is graduating from the same program and would like to go since she's never attended one of her college graduations (not sure why). Me, I've been to a couple, and really don't have much desire to attend. But, I will if she continues to claim that she'll only go if I do .

On the job front, I've applied for two assistant principal jobs, so we'll see if anything comes of them. The deadline for applications...

I have never hated....

Posted 05-11-2009 at 07:11 AM by BC-JoanneNY
Updated 05-11-2009 at 07:14 AM by BC-JoanneNY

...so many things about my life as I do right now. Truly. And what an awful thing to say, so let's throw in some guilt on top of it all. I don't even know where to begin to change any of it either. Fix the job situation? The school situation? The moving dilemma? The marriage? the kiddo with ADHD? The depression about all of it?

Where.do.I.start?

Maybe Moving?

Posted 03-29-2009 at 06:46 PM by BC-JoanneNY

DH and I saw a house that we both loved today. It's about 15 miles north of where we are now, beautiful house, great neighborhood, great schools. Problem? We'll need to get them down in price and the taxes are HIGH. However, when you combine what we're paying in taxes now and Dylan's tuition for private school, the new taxes are about $5,000 dollars more than that - so not horrible for this area.

The house was built in 1967 but the owners gutted the inside recently and started from...

Is his teacher kidding?

Posted 03-26-2009 at 04:29 PM by BC-JoanneNY

Sadly, I already know the answer to that question.

Dylan was subjected to his NINTH day of standardized testing today. He had the ELA portion of the Iowa's Monday - Thursday of last week, started the COGATS (some silly IQ standardized test) on Friday, finished that test on Monday and had the math part of the Iowa's Tuesday, Wednesday and today. In the midst of all this NONSENSE, his teacher managed to fit in two grammar tests, a spelling test and a social studies unit test. HE'S IN...
