It happened!!!!

Everyone who's prayed for Nikki to meet a nice guy at college...thank you because it seems it's happened!!

His name is Greg, and he's Japanese but has been raised his whole life in Hawaii. They met right away at college and have been "best buds", but within the last couple weeks they decided to start dating each other.

At first, I was kind of put off, because like Rick, this guy comes from an extremely well off family. So well off in fact, that he's 20 and doesn't have a license because in Hawaii he didn't have a need for one. He had a personal driver. I thought "Oh no! It's R all over again!!", but it isn't. Greg is paying for his own schooling...unlike R. He would like to beat the crap out of R for all he's done to Nikki. He pays for lunch and dinner, etc for Nikki instead of making her pay for HIM. He's disgusted that Nikki's designer coat and purse was bought by R's mom...not R himself, etc. Unlike R, this guy strongly believes in family and encourages Nikki to talk to us constantly. He's funny and down to earth!

So, the week of halloween....they were still saying they were just best buds yet they spent every day together for the whole week before. When they had the blizzard and classes were cancelled they even pulled an all nighter together. So I'm sitting there I believe it was the Wednesday of Halloween week and I get a text saying "Mom, you won't believe where I'm at". So I text her where? Thinking she might be on the ski slopes or something...something she's wanted to try and never done before. She texts "I'm at the private halloween party of the founder of Cisco". Hmmm...ok, so I'm a corporate dummy and have no clue what the big deal about that was. lol She said that they're friends of Gregs family and he brought her as his guest. He took her to a sushi restaurant in Denver last night, as she'd never had sushi before. The week before halloween he took her to an authentic Hawaiian restaurant and she was all excited about some "amazing" chicken dish she had. lol

She sent me an email on FB today, telling me that she's having dinner with Greg and his mom tonight...then tomorrow his sister is flying in from Harvard grad school and she's having dinner with all of them. She told me that she's "really really scared and nervous because his mom is just intimidating". Ok, so I'd done a search on the woman last week after Nikki telling me about his family (NO I'm NOT some crazy psycho stalker person...just was scared my dd might be getting mixed up with another one of them again. LOL) and according to U.S. Banker Magazine, Greg's mom is ranked as the 11th most powerful woman banker in the nation....so yeah, I can see where my 20yr old dd may be a little intimidated. I sent her back a message telling her NOT to be intimidated. I told her that all his mom being so successful means, is that she's been determined and worked hard in her life, and that she is still "just a person". I told her that Mrs. Lau raised Greg to be a kind, compassionate, fun guy so that she can't be all that bad or scary and to just be herself. I told her she's a beautiful, intelligent young woman and I'm sure Mrs. Lau will love her, just as I do.

Then, she messaged me and told me that Greg wants her to come home here for Thanksgiving, then fly to Hawaii to spend the other 5 weeks of break there. He told her that his family has welcomed her into their home so she'd have a free place to stay and free food and they've also said she has a job for the 5 weeks she's there to earn money. She said "Mom, I want to cry. I want to do this so bad but now that I've bought my ticket to come home I don't have any money to buy a ticket to get to Hawaii after Thanksgiving". I told her not to get her hopes up, but not to count it out either that I'd see what I could do to help her. I don't have much cash flow either, especially with Christmas coming...but I'm thinking that maybe we can find some cheap last minute one way type of ticket for her...then she'll be working while there and can save money to buy a ticket to fly back to Denver with Greg when the break is up.

I have NEVER heard Nikki so excited. About everyday things. She's happier than I've ever seen her before. I'm very excited for her and hope that this relationship goes the way she wants it to. I just feel like poop that she was raised in SUCH a modest life that she now thinks she has to feel intimidated by being around successful people. Oh well, I did teach her not to be racist, to be open minded, not to be afraid to reach for her dreams no matter our monetary situation, and most importantly to love...so I guess I could've done worse by her.
